Ted Cruz:Thought Canadian Birth 'Didn't Matter'

If Cruz runs for President it will no doubt provide some great material for the researchers over at Comedy Central who can pull out pronouncements Republicans issued during the birther controversy. Fortunately for the future of the Democracy the "birther" movement was pretty much kept on the fringes and respectable Republicans (at least those harboring serious political ambitions) might have fed off birther energy and money, but never went on record giving it legitimacy.
 
Rog: Where you see buy-in for the birther nonsense, I see an adroit politician who didn't partake in the folly. He's not stained by actually believing the birther, Obama is a Muslim stuff that's circulating on the intenet and email lists, but neither did he expend political capital alienating the people who were impassioned and enthralled by the conspiracy stories.

The Boehner think is also dumb. It's not a politician's job to go lecture wingnuts about how wrong they are and call them dumbasses.

Asking him to do so is not a legitimate journalistic question but a political tactic. Disagreeing with them isn't enough. He's trying to get Boehner to attack them enough to alienate them and entice them to turn against him. You don't see that happen on the Left, which also has plenty of nutcases.

For example, members of the International Socialist Organization (ISO) showed up at the Texas Capitol in support of Wendy Davis. Will she ever get this line of questioning?

REPORTER: Senator Davis, the ISO showed up to support your filibuster, and according to their website, they adhere to the principles of Karl Marx, Leon Trotsky, and Vladimir Lenin. Do you adhere to those principles?

DAVIS: Of course not. Though I believe our government should provide a strong public education system and take care of the least among us when we need a hand-up, I believe our economy should mostly be operated by free market principles. I'm not a communist.

REPORTER: Then as a candidate for Governor and a sitting state senator, don't you think you have a duty to condemn these America-hating, communist dumbasses as the unpatriotic sacks of **** that they are? Or do you secretly agree with them?

DAVIS: Uh, uh, uh . . . . .

That's basically what Gregory was trying to do to Boehner.

So how can he run for president if he was born in Canada?
Hawaii is slightly different from Canada as far as place of birth being in the United States.
Clearly, he should be ineligible to run for president, and is just looking for a way to institute socialized medicine and a take-over of our military by the RCMP.

Did y'all see that great article a few days ago ---- maybe in the Atlantic, I can't remember ----- about how his mom received all kinds of "free" Canadian health care when he was born in 1970?

You seem to know Cruz so well. How often do y'all have dinner? Please explain your assertion that he is "two faced".

I am really curious as to why you seem to dislike him so much. Is it because:

1) He is the smartest member of Congress? Of course that isn't saying much considering the collection of idiots this country has voted into office.

2) Are you an appellate lawyer and he kicked your *** around the Fifth Circuit? He is the best one in the country.

3) As you a another member of the petty Dewhurst clan?

Understand, I was adamantly opposed to Palin, et al being involved in his campaign. For all their bragging, the Tea Party did not win Cruz the senatorial seat; DEWHURST LOST IT with his petty ******** campaign.

I am hoping that Ted does not run for president in 2016. We need him in the Senate more than a loser to Hillary. The Republican Party is a disaster and should be put out of our misery. The John Cornyn, Bill Archers have lined their pockets and not done **** while in office. To be relevant again will require a huge overhaul. Yes, I voted for them, but it's a waste of vote.

So, why is Ted Cruz "two faced"?

Cruz won't be able to win a national election. I like his policies, but he's a little too confrontational...a little too absolutist to govern. He's also lacking charisma.

But Hornpharmd's "He is a joke" is a joke. The guy was Cum Laude at Princeton, Magna Cum Laude at Harvard Law, made editor at Harvard Law Review, editor of Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy, and a founding editor of the Harvard Latino Law Review. He clerked for Chief Justice Rehnquist and has argued 9 times in front of the SCOTUS. He might be one of the most accomplished lawyers ever to become a senator in the history of Congress.

The guy is definitely not a joke and he's sharper than all the haters on this board combined.

I read that the Supreme Court has never actually ruled on the definition of "naturalized citizen." There are long established policies for eligibility, but the fact is, Cruz was born in another country, so is certainly fair game for any birthers out there who want to look into his sketchy background.
It could even invite a legal challenge should he get very far into the primary process. Watching a right winger hoisted on their own petard would be great fun. I think petard is Canadian for Cruz.
 
Accurate's got some humor on this. He's knows the whole birther thing on Cruz is just media fodder.

We all remember that McCain was born in Panama. I guess some folks just have no idea what natural born citizen means.
 
Even the most casual observer would have to agree there is far more substance to a birther arguement with Cruz than with Obama. Sure, under previous interpretations of the phrase "naturalized citizen," Cruz is eligible. But in this political climate...somebody may run with it to the nearest courtroom. I just want to see it happen, for the fun of it.
It's less crazy than the Obama birthers, no question.
 
Cruz is not nor never has been a ' naturalized citizen". he was a citizen at birth
people are entitled to their own opinion but not their own facts.
 
According to the Constitution of the United States of America, which you may have heard of at some point, or maybe not, a person must be a "natural born" citizen of the United States to be eligible to run for the presidency. I said "naturalized citizen" instead of the actual words "natural born" citizen.
Those are the facts, and the term "natural born" would intuitively mean born in the U.S. of A. However, it has been interpreted differently to include scofflaws and nee'r-do-wells such as Cruz who want to game the system, and have so far been successful.
The facts include the fact that Cruz was not born in the United States, of course you may have your own facts.

It might be entertaining to some, and again, I'm not a big Cruz fan by any measure, but do you really believe what you just posted?
