I dont like the difference in punishments.....in the heat of the moment, if someone hauls off and punches you square in the mouth you might not always be able to stop what some would consider a natural reaction. I think if one is dismissed from the athletic program, then so should the other......IMO

In fact there's some justification for saying the instigator should get a stiffer punishment, although I can see the logic in saying the one whose punch caused the greater damage should get a stiffer punishment too.

The offenses were not the same. Battle pushed him (after a hard foul?). He got up, hit her in the face, breaking bones.

There are mixed reports that she actually threw a punch and drew blood from his bottom lip. While im in no way excusing his actions what so ever, I would just prefer that this not be a gender issue but rather a fairness issue. The majority of my career I've coached women and I have always encouraged them to strive for equality every day and in every way. That comes with the good and the bad. To me this is just another form of gender inequality if she did in fact punch him first and draw blood.

The video has me reverting back to my orginal post. She threw the first PUNCH and he had a snap reaction and lapse in judgement and punched her back. It was not a delayed incident and did not involve any kicking or further contact beyond the orignal incident. I believe that TTU got this one right with equal punishment. Equality means equality in ALL aspects

What if the reverse happened? I'm thinking we'd see a different outcome. Equality is a principle that should be fundamental, but given mankind's history, that will be impossible and always a struggle.

Throwing out identities, the aggressor should primarily suffer the consequences. The attacked one was in defense mode, and is a natural reaction to aggression.
