Tech takes a step forward, maybe two

Candi Whitaker is doing a nice job recruiting, they also got a verbal today from Desi Caldwell, which was sort of expected since her dad was hired as one of the assistant coaches last year and her sister Recee transferred there, she is mentioned in the article you posted. Desi is a highly rated prospect in the 2017 class I think. I would expect them to contend middle of pack in conference next year.

Desiree is actually class of 2018; although her commitment was expected, unless Candi turns things around this coming season, I'm not sure she gets a 2017-18 season, which means this verbal commitment many never result in a signed LOI if Coach Caldwell still isn't employed by TTech.

Tech will get better and better. Candi is a good coach... realize that she has had no top-tier recruits to work with thus far. While I certainly don't want them to have greater success than us, I'd like to see Candi do well. She seems like a class act.

Based on what I've heard from some Tech alumni at work, you're not out on a limb with this.

I had actually heard something to the contrary. Since Marsha still has a LOT of pull on the women's side, I was told that as long as Candi keeps things going upward that they will stick with her. They only thing that could've really pushed her out in the next season or two was Sheryl Swoopes having some success at Loyola which doesn't appear to be happening at all.

Could be just wishful (impatient) thinking on the part of my coworkers who were at Tech during the mid-90s and are desperate for a return to the Sharp glory days.

Just my opinion, but Whitaker needs to show substantial progress this coming season to save her job. The Big 12 is a tough conference; in order for Tech to move up from 9th place, someone else has to move down. Maybe that will be Iowa State. I see TCU and KSU also capable of moving up, but that means WVU, OU, and OSU need to move down.

While Tech is increasing their talent for this coming season, the other schools aren't sitting pat in that regard, either. It will be tough for Tech to break into the Top 5 in the conference, and make the WNIT.
