He got a hit and a walk, going one for three with a K, and (i think) 2 runs scored. Defensively he threw out at least one runner (close call) and allowed a run to score on a "wild pitch" that IMO could easily have been called a past ball on an 0-2 high heater. He may have gotten signals crossed up though cause his reactions looked slow to me.
I didn't realize that professional baseball players were on the team - obviously, I was mistaken... I guess it's more like Olympic basketball, but if that's the case, why not participation from the "big names"?
Cause major leaguers have mlb games to play. I don't know which they feel is more important, mlb or olympic games, but they are all playing in the states right now....
No MLB team in their right mind would allow a $10+ million investment to take a couple weeks out of their schedule to go play for the Olympic team during the heart of the pennant race. It'd be stupid. Its not unpatriotic (word?), its a smart business decision. Certain teams would essentially be placing 2-4 of their best players on the 15 day DL while the over achieving teams (teams with fewer Olympic players) would have two weeks to make up ground.
If it were the offseason, they'd be there, see the World Baseball Classic.
