Tea Party less popular than Dems, Repubs, Muslims

It's really just more proof that the Tea Party isn't the grassroots non-partisan group that they keep saying they are.

In fact, past Republican affiliation is the single strongest predictor of Tea Party support today.

They are overwhelmingly white, but even compared to other white Republicans, they had a low regard for immigrants and blacks long before Barack Obama was president, and they still do.

Hmm...see Sangre's post above. check.

Next to being a Republican, the strongest predictor of being a Tea Party supporter today was a desire, back in 2006, to see religion play a prominent role in politics.

The Tea Party is exactly who we always thought it was - bitter Republicans pushing a social, religious-based agenda.

It doesn't surprise me. Day after day, people hear that the tea party is a group of domestic terrorists holding a gun to the head of the voters willing to drive us off the cliff in a maniacal pursuit of some ridiculous goal that doesn't even matter anymore. I think it's hilarious that the media is a whole lot more willing to use that sort of imagery about its own citizens than it would be to describe an ACTUAL terrorist organization.

You have the MSNBC panel the other day that shockingly ALL agreed that the tea party was a racist organization. You have CNN running commentary about a Daily Beast blog which speculates on how Bachman and Perry "might" have "ties" to a radical group that thinks Christians have the right and destiny to rule the world (remember when reporting meant more than finding a liberal blog, quoting it and saying "you know, the candidate hasn't gotten back to us, and yeah this sounds a little out there, but can you imagine if it's true????) Basically you have had a stream of one-sided relentlessly negative stories using words and imagery that i THOUGHT the dems thought were harmful to our political discourse.

So why would anyone be surprised that the tea party would be less popular than any of those groups?

Anytime we hear data that makes a group we support look bad- let's instead attack the messengers, right boys?

Be it the NYT, Scientists, Researchers- attack, attack, attack!

OK, so the poll says the tea party is unpopular. I agree. Done.

But in your mind, when we start asking why that is and questioning whether the people doing the poll haven't had a WHOLE LOT to do with that unpopularity, we're just attacking the messenger.

Or is discussing the cause of that unpopularity off-limits?

Now that I am a member and have seen it first hand. Not one thing or topic of religion has come up. Most of the group I am in are well to do college educated professionals that want our country back and for people to earn what they have and not been given everything. Common thread, spending is the problem not revenue. Take and read whatever you want, I am speaking from personal experience and last week for the Republican debate there were about 40 of us and 20 of us were new to the Tea party. If in Denton County send me a PM and I will get you an invite for the next debate.

Major, same experience for me. Social issues are really not addressed in Tea Party agenda's at all. While the membership might comprise of some social conservatives, it is not a goal of the group itself. Of course, if the NYT, is going to report it, we were all wearing pointed white sheets at our last gathering. Such is the state of "journalism".

I guess reading comprehension is not something to be taken lightly.
That is NOT the poll in the topic.
thanks for playing.

Look on page 9, question 31 in my link to the poll and then apologize if you are man enough. The poll is linked in the original story so we can discuss reading comprehension a bit later.

pas
I repeat what you linked is NOT the poll bo linked in the OP.

This poll you linked is a NYT/CBS poll.
go back and read the OP/ topic. it is an OPEd that appeared in the NYTimes but the poll was not conducted bythe NYT.

and then show us how much of a man you ar.e

So write DAVID E. CAMPBELL and ROBERT D. PUTNAM and ask them for their data sets. Or just ask them to provide you the ratings for the 23 groups they asked about.

Millions of people watch crap like 'Jersey Shore', 'Real Housewives' and junk like that. So just because something is popular/unpopular with the masses doesn't mean much these days. Let's see how the elections play out.
