TE Irvin Smith (Apr 8) - Decomm aggy 1-21

Please correct me if I'm late on the news but I don't think Smith has committed to Alabama yet. If not, my assumption is that Satan eventually will take a final look at all of his possible commits and pick the top 25 or so. If that's the case, Smith might as yet be discarded as not good enough to play at Bama and be able to come to Texas.

And let us not forget how pleased UT fans were when Kyler Murray left A&M for OU where he will have a higher probability of playing against the horns.

Are you sure people were happy he went to OU. That wasn't my reaction. I think Murray should retire from football and go all in on baseball.

I think people were happy that the whole incident caused A&M to look bad and the fact that Murray went to OU was a price worth paying for that. Indeed, the fact that Murray and Kyle Allen left A&M probably cost them a number of recruits this year which probably helped UT a lot in the long run.

Smith is gone and shut the whole process down for Bama. Saban was the only one allowed recent in-home access and no other coaches get to counter with their own.

As for Murray to OU...we cheered this for the immediate positive impact it had on our recruiting efforts. We almost got Smith because of the Aggy QB exodus, and now have a solid shot at others that once were solid to Ag before the fallout behind center.

When Murray left Aggy, the consensus of Texas fans were opposed to Strong pursuing him. If we passed, why would we fret over OU getting that player? Wouldn't we want OU to suffer from Murray's shortcomings that kept us from even pursuing him?

With Smith, all 3 schools want him and realize he has high value. If he had bailed from Aggy, denied us, and went to OU we'd all be much more upset by having to face him.

As most know by now, Brother Martin TE Irvin Smith cancelled his in-home visit with Texas HC Charlie Strong last night and seems to be Alabama bound right now. Most had Smith pegged to commit to Texas after his recent decommitment from Texas A&M. I was told Smith is really caught up in all the hype and stuff surrounding Alabama, which isn’t hard to do as the Tide are coming off another National Title. I’ve said it a few times now, when Alabama sets it’s sights on a recruit it is something to worry about because it is hard for some recruits to tell a school like Alabama no.

Another thing I was told that could’ve played against Texas is that Irvin’s father, who lives in Phoenix did not join his son on his Texas official visit like he did on his other visits including Alabama. Not sure why or how big of an impact that could’ve played but it is something to note.

The interesting thing is, our source at Alabama tell us they plan on only taking three TEs in this class and they already have two committed. Additionally, they have TE Devin Asiasi coming in for an official visit this weekend so if they get Asiasi it would seem Irvin Smith doesn’t have a spot…right? Well, that’s what we thought initially. But I’ve talked to someone on the Alabama side of this and was told that if Asiasi commits and with Irvin Smith wanting to sign with Alabama they’ll still only take sign three TEs in this class despite that totally 4 commits. So let’s just say, some poor TE who has been committed to Alabama for a while better be praying Devin Asiasi choosing to go somewhere else…otherwise he will likely get some unexpected news soon.

Typical from what I hear about Bama recruiting practices. Not surprised.
