Our class was ranked about #9 before this commit. I wonder where it puts us now?

I know rankings don’t mean all that much but I think it’s really good from a symbolic standpoint if Charlie’s staff can pull a top class after the season we had.

While I am not a fan of the hat selection thing I realize at events like this it is common place and likely orchestrated by the tv network and game promoters. The way a young man handles it is what is telling. Some go up, feign this hat, then that hat or grab one and then put it down for another. I like the kids who make their declaration or thanks to whomever and then grab the hat and make the schools sign. That's what he did and others as well.

Best of luck to this young man and to all who are in this game. May there be no injuries. May I not jinx it with this comment.

Devonaire Clarington, 6-5 222 lbs (Booker T. Washington, Miami). 4-star on all the services. Generally a top-175 commit. #75 on ESPN, #203 on 247, #231 on scouts, around top-275 in rivals. The composite rank by 247 (industry average) is #168.

It seems ESPN thinks very highly of him, as the 3rd best TE in the nation, even ahead of the darling of the other services, Kris Clark whom we were after (he was very high on us, but decided to stick to his Meatchicken commitment once Harbaugh was picked)

In fact ESPN thinks very highly of a lot of our commits, as they have Malik, Clarington, Gentry, Wheeler and Elliott in the national top-100.

By the way, generally rivals rankings are worse for Charlie (just like they used to be great for Mack recruits in most years). Those guys are just way too slow in evaluating the players who do better in the senior year, I think...

He has great hands, but the guy played defense also, which means he can be coached well to be a blocker to.
 
Strong is doing a bang up recruiting. He's got to feel really good.
 
This has been some closing job by Charlie on these guys who quickly became strong Texas leans and stayed that way. Despite two pretty poor games to finish the season. I hope we can close on Irvin too. That's not as much a certainty as it was a couple of days ago, but hope it happens.

At least all our doubting-Thomas friends on this forum won't call our coach "3-star Charlie" anymore, I hope. The last 6 commits have been one 5-star and 5 four-stars, if I am not mistaken. And, based on the reports from all-star games, the poor 3-stars he picked up earlier like Charles Omenihu, Jamille Johnson etc are looking very good too.
