TCU to join Big 12?

That would be a good pick up if it sticks.

We could do a lot worse, and probably will, as we continue to try to duct tape this conference together.

Really didnt think we would invite TCU...

Nothing wrong with another in-state game though, especially if Texas is serious about protecting our athletes from having to spend half their lives in an airplane.

Great for football but not much else, and in terms of money, I'm not sure it does much for a market that Texas and the Big XII already dominate.

But as others have said, we could do a lot worse. If Mizzou leaves for the SEC, I'd like us to add BYU.

I just got a text from my Tech friend saying TCU just accepted the invite. Don't know what his source is.

Replacing aTm -- an in-state AAU public institution with a 40k enrollment, huge fanbase, 90k seat stadium that routinely sell out -- with TCU -- a small private school that can't sell out a 30k seat stadium and is now losing to the likes of SMU and Baylor -- is a huge step down. TCU had a nice run in a mid-major conference, but their weaknesses in terms of budget, fanbase, facilities, q-rating, etc, will be exploited now that they are stepping up in class (albeit less of a step up then it would have been before so many of the good programs left).

If we keep this up, expect the networks to renegotiate the "Big 12's" current sub-par TV deal further downward. You can't replace teams that routinely sell out 90k seat stadiums (aTm, Neb) and the the only flagship football schools in well-populated states (CU and UM) with mid-major retreads and expect the TV execs to pay you at the same rate. We are becoming a contracting, regional conference with very little national appeal outside of the RRS. TCU's "eyeballs" are limited to graduates, which are few in number. No one else cares about them. The same is true of most of the mid-major retreads that are being suggested as replacements for the aforementioned flagship schools.

On a brighter note, with the pathetic home schedule we will now have, you might be able to get decent season tickets for less than a $10k donation.

Smart, in regards to relegating the Aggies to trying to schedule the likes of Houston (which they won't do because of their shared recruiting market) and the smaller in state schools. They wouldn't now be able to replace a big Texas rival game with a smaller but similar visible game with the other most noteworthy program in the state.

Now, let's get Louisville, BYU, and the best other possible TV footprint out there.

well, I would argue they are more nationally relevant then ATM has been the last decade. Plus, they have a 50k seat stadium they are expanding, 3rd, they are actually committed to their football program.

I support this, I am just thrilled it isn't cougar high.

TCU is not a good pick up for B12. Small stadium, small alumni base, travels poorly. Very much a regional team with little appeal outside the metroplex.

Not a quality replacement for tam. Sorry, they just aren't.

I was hoping that the Big XII would not invite TCU. The damage is done now. Hopefully they will invite BYU and Louisville to bring the conference back to 12 schools.

Missouri needs to be cautious about trying to ***** itself to the SEC. They may end up with sperm on their face again. News out of Alabama is they don't have the votes to be accepted at this point. Also, they didn't help themselves with the "we prefer the B1G but we'll just have to take the SEC" comment. That doesn't seem to sit well with some in the SEC....imagine that!

If the SEC doesn't want Missouri -- a AAU school that draws 61 with St. Louis and KC in their footprint -- who do they want? West Virginia? I mean, there's nobody else reasonably available right now unless the SEC is willing to attack the ACC. That's doubtful for number 14.

TCU? Wow. Just wow. What a crappy, crappy school. And in 5 years everyone that's on this board will understand why. It all has to do with the short lifespan of human beings and the failure of humans to learn from history.

I absolutely believe Powers is not keeping Texas long in a configuration that includes such "superpowers" as TCU. If Powers does, then today marks the official beginning of the decline of Texas and the ascendancy of Texas A&M.

TCU. Actually, adding TCU is downright embarrassing.

TCU was down this year but they will be back. They have a great coach, their defensive talent just isnt there. They have upgraded their facilities and stadium. It's actually pretty cool and seats about 55k and they have been selling out their games or close to it the last 2 seasons.
