Taylor Jungmann's Slump

Jungmann is in the worst slump of his otherwise stellar career having lost his only two games ever at the Disch the past two and having surrendered almost as many runs (earned and unearned) as he did the entire Big XII season in those two games. To call it a slump is a bit of a stretch but he has been so incredible it qualifies for him as one.

Jungmann was amazing in Omaha in 2009 and the reason the Horns made it to the championship series and then forced a third game in that series. Saturday night in prime time against a potent Gator offense, Taylor will have a chance to find some post season magic and get the Horns 2011 Omaha visit started on the right foot.

In 2005 when the Horns also faced 5 elimination games before the CWS they got to Omaha and turned it on in all phases of the game to run away with the title beating the Gators in the championship series. Chance to do it again this year but starting with the Gators instead of finishing with them.

I'm not gonna call it a slump. 2 runs were unearned because his defense couldn't make a play, and his offense didn't score any runs.

I'm with you guys on that, Taylor pitched well enough to win that ASU game hands down. After we lost I remember thinking we basically had to beat them three times this weekend, as we shoulda just won game 1. Even seemed he was a little irritated at taking that loss in his postgame comments, and I don't blame him one bit. Then again, the ace has to face an ace deep in the postseason so you have to assume your offense is gonna be a little less productive in your outings, in most cases.

As for CWS, if Taylor is lights out and we beat Florida on Saturday and win our 2nd game, I'd expect it to be a best 2 of 3 situation with Florida. With us already owning a 1-0 advantage. As we will likely meet back up with Florida again to decide the bracket winner. Florida is a stout team no doubt.

When you think about it, it's not really that surprising that we win out of the loser's bracket and fight off elimination so well. Assuming we do lose one of our first two games like we have been, from that point on is where our pitching advantage begins to really show itself. Once we get to the back end of team's starting rotations is where we definitely see the difference. And it was good to see Miss St. could cause some real problems beyond the ace of Florida.

But yeah, let's go ahead and stay away from elimination games in the CWS and really flex our arms this time.

Taylor had one bad outing in three years.

I don't call it a slump.

I call it freakish that he's only had one.
