Taylor Bible

Taylor was consistently the slowest man off the ball today. Hope he was just tired from a long week of practice and fun because that's not going to cut it at the next level. It's something that can be improved upn though. What I did like about him was that he doesn't get pushed around inside; he holds his ground pretty well.

I wish folks would be more careful of what they post on here especially about potential players on the team we support....

Mack and Will M. know who and why they want a particular player. If you watched this game he was double teamed the whole game which allowed (i forget the other defenseive linemans name) to work one on one with only one O-lineman and he (unknown player) had an all world game.

granted the other player is good or he wouldn't be at the UA game but T.B. assisted in his success by requiring two for blocking. The offense can't double team everybody.

I for one am darn glad that Tayor Bible is a Horn and am confident he will a stud on our D Line in the years to come.

I noticed that too, a little slow off the snap. But if you look at his junior season film that was probably his best attribute. I'm not sure what happened there. And even though Easley was getting in the backfield all day, they still kept double teaming Bible. Not only did Bible hold his ground there, but got a good push on several occasions.

Yeah I forgot to add, and I totally agree with the above poster, Bible will do very well here.

maybe you should stop reading here if others opinions bother you so much. I mean this is an opinion forum.

"Mack and Will M. know who and why they want a particular player."

They've been wrong on players before and will be again. They ain't batting a thousand!

"If you watched this game he was double teamed the whole game which allowed (i forget the other defenseive linemans name) to work one on one with only one O-lineman and he (unknown player) had an all world game."

What I said had nothing to do with him beating his man/men. Getting off the ball is a pre-snap and has nothing to do with scheme, being double teamed etc. I too think Bible will be fine because getting off the ball is something that can be improved. But again, this is an opinion board and with that comes some objectivity,at least with some of us.

IF you saw any of Guyer's games this year, you know there is no problem with that guy. Great hands for a young DT, holds his ground and is great off of blocks. There's a reason he's the top ranked DT. Some will disagree, but to me Bible and Dorsey are simply better than last year's "romancing" DT coming out of high school.

Bruhman..... ur a moron....STFU.

I trust Mack, Will M. & co., I vividly remember looking over the roster in 2005 and seeing Colt McCoy on that roster and thinking "Man, that kid will probably never see the field" Wow! was I ever wrong.

All the recruits looked damn good yesterday, i'm excited to see them play. Taylor spoke well being on national television and all.

By spring practice, we'll have a good idea of whether or not such concerns are founded. The UA game is an exhibition and he's going somewhere after this. Sure he wants to impress, but there could be circumstances we're not aware of considering it's noted as a strength of his.

The games I saw him play at Denton he could crash through the line when double teamed but at others he just held his ground, I would assume this was more scheme than ability.

All star games are exhibitions. Few conclusions should be drawn from all star game performances, especially with interior linemen. The one-on-one drills and practices for OL/DL are much better gauges of ability.

There is no need to get offended but the tape is there, Taylor was noticeably and consistently slower getting off the ball that Easley, but as most have noted, he also (almost inexplicably) drew the double team. Would have liked to have seen him drive off the ball with a lower butt too (needs to bend those knees!) as he had a habit of standing up too much when initially engaging the blocker. He looked pretty good rumbling down the field with that fumble though (but guess who caused it?).

That said, he's still a very welcome addition to any team and I'm very proud he chose the Horns, but in comparison, Easley was the star of the show.

Now it should also be noted that I remember an All star game where I saw J. Snead slinging TD's to D. Beasley and thought what a bright future we had with those two. Or watching Barkley and Gallippo (sp?) tear it up on both sides of the ball and thinking USC would continue it's dominance for the foreseeable future.

It's just an exhibition (and a very sloppy one at that), not a predictor of future success.

I was surprised to see Bible getting off as slow on the snaps as he was. Reports from practice were that he and Dorsey were 2 of the fastest guys off the snap all week.

LMAO!! Man u are fuuuuny!!!
I remember watching Larry Dibbles in the AA Game and thinking "why are we so hot after him" because he was getting owned on every play. So what's your point?

Until 1998 I held the belief that "you can't teach speed" until Mack and Mad Dog came to town. Now I understand that you can improve speed and esp quickness. And even when you don't improve a 40 time, you can still greatly improve performance through recognition, technique, and strength.
All these guys we saw yesterday have great potential - some ready to contribute immediately at the next level, some more raw potential who must be developed.
So the bottom line? All of them must be developed and if TB will work hard Mad Dog, Tolleson, and Coach Boom will turn him into a quality D1 DL.

Every one of these players is an integral part of the best class Mack has ever put together. They will position us for a run at the NC for the next three or four years. We're in GREAT shape, to worry about critiquing some of the players is ludicrous at best. Enjoy the ride.

TB will also lose some weight after his first spring- summer at the Texas training table. I think he is a spring enrollee.

TB has great upside and every team in the country would have signed him so I feel pretty confident about his potential at UT. However, it was obvious that he was PAINFULLY slow off the ball. Looked like a conditioning issue to me but it hasn't been that long since his season ended.

Course Granny's Christmas cookin coulda done some bad things to that boy

There looked to be something else going on. Neither TB nor AD were firing off the ball or even appearing to try to get penetration. They would hit the OL with their hands, stand up and then watch. This did not look like the technique either is known for or employed all fall in games. I think perhaps there was a scheme issue going on (at least I am hoping so) where they were instructed to eat up blockers and control a gap or two instead of penetrating.

agree that the issue was technique. The dude's comments re: Dorsey and Bible having quickest get off in the practices seems accurate. See link below where Bible was identified as having quickest GO

I'm glad my speakers are working, because by looking at the expressions on those 4, I would have guessed the they were announcing that he had to give up football or something.

Look at the video on ESPN if you think he is slow off the ball. He may have been slow off the ball in the UA game but looking at his game clips from other games he seems very quick.
