Ok, Im 35yrs, never seen it. I DVR'd it the other night. Starting to watch it now.

Martine Scorscee is directing.

Deniro, Sybal Sheppard, Jodie Foster, Harvey Keitel, Albert Brooks.

I have no idea what it is about other than a Taxi Driver of course. Updates later.

i dont know the senators stand on welfare, but i'm sure it's a good one. (didn't know obama was in politics back then)

Movie blew me away when it came out.

Here is a man who would not take it anymore.

Still a great movie by any standard.

the shooting scenes seemed real and believable, except the blood was very watery.

70's NYC is a place and time I'm glad I never lived

"Listen, you *******, you screw-heads.
Here is a man who would not take if anymore.
Who would not let--

Listen, you *******, you screw-heads. Here is a man who would not take if anymore. A man who stood up against the scum..."

Something about him stopping, correcting himself, and starting over with his speech always so seemed so jarring to me. Like a man having trouble articulating his thoughts and trying to figure out a healthy way to express himself.

Of course that didn't happen.

i like taxi driver a lot. probably seen it 10 times and i have the dvd. however, i've never understood why it is considered such a masterpiece. may be my age - i'm 34.

You walk out with those fuckin' creeps and low-lifes and degenerates out on the streets and you sell your little ***** for peanuts? For some low-life pimp who stands in the hall? And I'm square? You're the one that's square, man. I don't go screwing **** with bunch of killers and junkies like you do. You call that bein' hip? What world are you from?

The idea had been growing in my brain for some time: TRUE force. All the king's men cannot put it back together again.

70s Scorsese wins, but Coppola with The Godfather, The Conversation, The Godfather II, and Apocalypse Now is a pretty salty #2 (4 top 250 movies of all-time, and no duds. The Conversation, in my opinion, is as good as the other three movies )

Maybe Woody Allen for #3?: Bananas, Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex But Were Afraid to Ask, Sleeper, Love and Death, Annie Hall, Interiors, Manhattan.

#4 and possibly higher would be Hal Ashby..

Harold and Maude
The Last Detail
Shampoo
Bound For Glory
Being There

I'll take Sidney Lumet for a $100

Serpico
Dog Day Afternoon
Network
The Verdict (came out in 82, but definitely a 70's movie).

The 70's were a great movie decade.

I always felt sorry for him when he took her to that porno movie...

"Late for the Sky," was a great song choice for that scene when he staring at the TV.

And the 70's was a fantastic time for movies.

I may not remember correctly, but didnt this movie inspire John David Hinkley to shoot Ronald Reagan?

.

yep.

Hinkley was obsessed with Jodie Foster. Hinkley was a little messed up.

It is a little interesting because the plot line with Jodie Foster had nothing to do with the Presidential candidate plotline in the movie.

If he wanted to "impress Jodie Foster", why didn't he go after Harvey Kietel?

No sense in trying to make sense of crazy.

Thought that taking a first date to the porno movie was sheer brilliance. Still waiting for the S. Congress theater to reopen so I can copy that.
