Tanner Brock

Copperas Cove LB Tanner Brock will be going to OU's Jr. Day this weekend. He is a good kid and a good player(at my former HS). He has been All-State both years on varsity, so far, and started in two state championship games. It sure would suck to lose him to the Sooners.

MacDuff was recruiting Brock before he left, but I am not sure if Texas is still recruiting him. Ketch had some pretty dumb "observations" about Brock (such as saying he's not really 6'3". I know the kid, and he really is) at the state championship game, but the kid is a gamer.

I had high hopes of Muschamp really going after him.

MacDuff visited him a few times, but I don't know if he really made inroads. I really think MacDuff wasn't really cut out to recruit college players. He just didn't seem to relate that well to Tanner, but what do I know?

Thanks for the info and keep us informed. Tanner seems like a tackling machine. I hope we start to recruit him soon.

Doesn't look like we're pursuing Brock. Too bad. His numbers are:

Sophomore: 229 tackles, 172 solos, and 23 tackles for loss

Junior: 227 tackles, 137 solos, 27 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks

And of course, 30 starts through 2 seasons.

OU has offered. Texas hasn't.

I'm sure he isn't, but he is an all-around athlete, and the numbers he has put up on the football field are totally unreal.

More than likely he will commit to OU before its all said and done, and man that sucks. He is one hell of a player. Not sure why we're not recruiting him.

Committed to TCU. His big brother goes there, and I assume his younger brother will, too, in 2 years.

456 tackles in two seasons, and he has to prove himself.

Pete-

As a grad school tcu alum I am very excited to hear about tanner commiting to the frogs. This is the first I have read about this however; I see that Rivals hasnt confirmed it yet. Not questioning your info, but i was wondering how you know this? Do you know Tanner (or coach, friend, etc...)?

Also, how do you think he compares to his older brother? All the reports I have heard is he is a better prospect.

thanks

A family member told me.

Tanner is a better prospect than Logan because he is more athletic, but make no mistake, Logan is a beast who has good hands, good technique, and will give 100% all the time. He has really gotten bigger over the past year, and I would expect big things from him.

Tanner is a huge pickup for the Frogs.

thanks for the info pete...

also, do you know much about the other TCU commitment out of Copperas Cove Josh Boyce? I read his profile on rivals and he looks to have the size to play db. I see his only offers are TCU and SMU however, and he currently has no stars. What are you impressions?

JB is a player. He will play anywhere the coaches ask him to, and he is a good kid. He is athletic, and pretty fast, but his biggest asset is his field vision. He catches the ball and weaves through the defense.

He played WR and DB last year, and did well at both, but I think he is a better offensive player. Over the last two seasons, Boyce has caught some clutch passes that have helped carry us to two consecutive state championship games. (The aforementioned Logan Brock caught an incredible falling one-hander in the endzone against Aledo in the 2006 state semi-finals) Good kid, and a damn fine pick up.

I really haven't been paying close attention. Are y'all looking at any other Cove players? Rashad Hardy? Anthony Mackey?

thanks for the info. good to hear.

from what i have read TCU has talked quite a bit with Mackey but I dont think they have offered yet. This Cove team seems to be really loaded with D1 players this year. Ho do you like their chances to return to the championship game without their stud qb this year?

This team will be more talented, but less experienced than the last two teams. Our 5A district should actually be a little easier than our 4A district was, but Temple will be tough. It all depends on how quickly our line gels, IMO.

We have five backs that could each start, and that all have different skill sets. Our DBs and WR corps will both be better than last year's, but anytime you have to replace a 2 year starter at QB, growing pains are probable. I think we will make the playoffs again, and everything will hinge on our draw. The talent will be there.

BTW, I am pretty sure y'all haven't offered Mackey yet because he has been a little banged up since spring practice. Hopefully, he'll heal fine.

Rashad Hardy (DB) is best friends with Tanner, and a good friend of all the Brocks. I wouldn't be surprised to see him in a package deal. He's good, too.

He's going to TCU.

He had a damn good offer list. He chose TCU over the Sooners, Missouri, Arkansas, Wisconsin etc...

Good news for the young man.

I trust Mack's judgement in recruiting, but it is a mystery to me why we haven't been after Brock, and the New Braunfels linebacker that verballed to zero-u.

Tanner finished his HS career with 45 consecutive starts, played in two state championships, a state semifinal, 2008 12-5A defensive MVP. 2007 16-4A defensive MVP. 2007 First Team All-State. 2006 16-4A defensive newcomer of the year. 2006 First Team All-State, made 687 tackles.

In 2008, he made 230 tackles, 23 tackles for loss. 1 interception. 3 forced fumbles. 1 fumble recovery. 4 rushing TD's.

Look up "beast" in the dictionary, and you will see a picture of T. Brock.
