Taking Kids to first Game.

Currently live in Georgia and will be in Austin during the Kansas Game. I have not been to a game in years and was hoping to take my kids to their first game. Is my best bet Stubhub for tickets? Where do you suggest for parking? Years ago I parked at the the COOP and after shopping walked over to the stadium. Is that still possible? If not where do you suggest I can find parking? My kids are 9 and 10, so is Bevo Blvd worth the visit? I don't believe that even existed the last time I went to a game. I have feeling this will be an 11a game so would that work in my favor ( time + opponent)?
Any help would be appreciated.

CMA for that age Bevo Blvd is worth it to get a bit early. If you can do two hours early you can watch the team walk in. It’s easy for the boys to get in front of crowd and get fist bumps if they’d like that sort of thing. Parking is problematic these days I’ll let someone else address that for you but I suspect down San Jacinto towards the capital is still an option.
I go to TicPic for my other Longhorn events theses days just because I hate Stubhubs fees. If your TexEx you can likely get tickets at the Alumn Ctr for this game. They sell for face. There are always scalpers on the street if you want to wait till last minute.
Good luck and Hookem.

Single game tickets go on sale on the 11th. If you are a member of the Texas Exes, a presale started this morning. Good luck and have fun!

My kids are the same age, and they love Bevo Blvd! Totally worth it. Since you have to get there early, you'll find a garage downtown in which to park no problem.

My advice for parking is go early of course.

Go toward DKR on I-35 and exit MLK Blvd. - West
Go West on MLK - 3 blocks to San Jacinto
Left on San Jacinto (one way street south)
Go 2 blocks just past 17th Street
Scholtz's Beer Garden is on the left.
State Parking garage is on the right, across the street from Scholtz.

Probably $20 to park - always space, easy to get out of after the game IMHO.
Not a terribly long walk - San Jancinto will walk you right to Bevo Blvd & DKR

Good luck!

CMA,

Be sure and sign the kids up for "Hook Em Herd". Kids are taken to the tunnel at Neuhaus Royal, given a souvenir t-shirt, and then all turned loose to race from the South Goal to the north end zone. This is before kickoff and before the team runs out. Huge hit with the kids and gives them a great view of the size of Memorial Stadium.

If you get there early enough, there are a couple of houses on 26th (between Red River & San Jacinto that charge to park in their yard.

I'll try to get you the name of someone to assist with having the boys "help" unload Bevo and then go greet and fist bump the players as they come off the bus.

Wow! Thanks for all the great advice and info. I have a boy and girl but I am sure they would both love a chance to run on the field. I imagine I would have to get there pretty early to sign up but I will give it a try.

@Sangre Naranjada I would if I could. Anything to help this team!

As the time draws closer and gametime is set, CDC will send out emails with exact times of events. At that time. one of us can get you the name of an employee to meet you.

Yes, there are plenty of young ladies than run down the field. If you want a video of that, you need to find someone on here with a good camera to record and forward to you.

Agree with 100% of advice here. My girls are 16/15 now but they did the herd when they were 9/10 and loved it. They love watching the kids run on now and reminiss.

For parking, we shop at Coop before the game and park in the garage there and validate with a purchase but then head over to San Jac exactly where Worster said. I think it's $25 for the state garages but easy walk to DKR.

100% do Bevo Blvd. Fun for all ages. Midway with carnival games, zip line, food trucks, cheap beer and pregame or post game concert on LBJ Lawn. They'll have an autograph table in front of exes center with one of the men's or women's team autographing team posters.

For game day tickets, you should be able to get lower level for face for Kansas. Check out swap meet here.

Enjoy the game. That's also the alumni band game.

Ha! I hear ya but I do think it’s interesting that they sell beer outside the stadium for half the price or a beer in the stadium.
They call it "fan first pricing". It's good until one and a half hours before kickoff. I think it applies to some food. But even in the stadium during games, there are some foods that are reasonably priced....hot dogs, popcorn, etc.

I see the Kansas Game is a 2:30 kickoff. So how early is "early" to get parking and a shot to sign my kids up for Hook'em Herd?

I believe that the athletic department website has a place to sign up the kids for Hook em Herd.

Parking is a zoo. There are cash lots detailed on the department website. Not sure if you can pay online to reserve a spot in advance.

Saturday, I got to San Jacinto garage at 515 for a kickoff at 7. I chose to park on 4 but could have been on 3. State garages down by 17th & 18th may be easier.

People in Foundation, Chris' office, and ticket office are very helpful.

Before I sprang for a parking pass I always parked free at the capital on San Jacinto. I did get there 3 hrs early though and it’s a good little hike. Wouldn’t do it with littles.

Greetings all - like the OP, I've been to several OU games (my kids' first-ever Texas game was the 49-0 stompdown last year), but haven't been to DKR since 2008. I'm taking my boys to the Kansas game on Saturday (was able to swing face-value tickets that came with a parking pass in the Brazos garage), so I've pretty much already won the lottery here.

My boys are 10 and 14; it will be their first time at a DKR game. All of the advice here is much appreciated - any more insight on the Bevo unloading, Hook 'em Herd, etc? I can't find much online about any of that.

In any event, it sounds like the pre-game and tailgating scene is miles ahead what it was back in my days on campus. Looking forward to a great time.

Well, it is far, far more corporate. Whether or not this qualifies it to be considered "miles ahead" is a matter of personal preferences. Color me old school.

"Color me Old School"

When I was in school, we were all too cool to tailgate, wear orange and show up early.

Why did we need to tailgate when we ate barbeque and drank beer every day any way? Why wear colors to a home game? We bought a ticket, we were cheering loudly, we assumed the opposing team would know that we were Longhorn fans.
Finally, If you showed up early it meant you had a lame Friday night.

Though, Mack Brown taught us that these things do occur everywhere else and we were so starved for wins, that we would of showed up naked if he asked.

Law Grad,

The signup for Hook Em Herd has moved around some, but it will be on San Jacinto around 21st. It has been at Gate 1 and sometimes at Gate 6. There is a tent and signups are first come, first serve. Age cuts off at 12, but if the younger asks, they will probably let his brother run with him.

Bevo will also be unloaded around 21st and San Jacinto. The players unload at north end.

Chris' office usually emails a timetable of events on Friday. If so, I'll try to cut and paste it either on here or PM.

WARNING: God did not have me in mind when He invented electronics.
