West Mall seemed to be the best place to post this.
The Ex-Students Association magazine Alcalde: Sept.- Oct. has this as the cover story.
Very interesting article with numerous photos.
"Restoring the University's most enduring symbol to it's former glory will not be easy - or cheap - but many believe the updates will be invaluable."
It discusses Old Main that it replaced that parts of it became condemned and it was a fire hazard.
The admin bldg. and Tower was started in 1934 and was completed in 1937 for $2 MM. Interesting who, what, when, where, how the Tower came to be.
Many had expressed concern about the condition of the Tower for many years. Credit Dr. Jay Hartzell, President for finally being the catalyst to explore and take action on restoration.
The projected cost will be $70MM with construction to begin in 2025. Project will also include various improvements to the area around the Tower. This includes tearing down the old greenhouse behind it.
As someone in the article stated, the Tower is not just the core but the foundation of The University.
I'm anxious see the full renewal of this icon sometime soon!
