Tailgating Information - Football games

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but if it's not I'm more than willing for it to get moved.

I was planning a tailgate with about 25-30 people for Texas Tech vs. Texas on September 19th. I've parked in the baseball field parking lot in the past and walked to the game, but I was wondering if you can actually tailgate there. If not, where would be the best place?

Thanks!

Do a little research the game before. It is very poor form to displace someone who tailgates in the same spot every game. Near the tennis courts would probably be a good option. A better option would be to join an existing tailgate.

The Disch Faulk parking lots now require a Longhorn Foundation parking pass, as do most lots within a reasonable radius of the stadium. There are some pay lots, but most are not conducive to tailgating.

Something else you should try, is getting in touch with the local tt ex association. They put on a big tailgate every year y'all play here. They could probably expand to include your group or at least give you some pointers.

This is a Tech party?

I think Oil Can Harry's will let you use their place for free, in addition to providing a complimentary bus to and from the stadium...

People pay thousands of dollars for spots close to the stadium for tailgating. I've seen poeple do them in the parking garages... pay for several spots... kinda weird though.

You have to pay mega $$$$$ for the Disch Faulk Field spots now?

The last Tech/UT game I went to was 2005, and you paid a nominal fee to park there (maybe $25 I think). When did this change?

And some people tailgate in a parking garage?

All visiting team tailgates have been moved to the cementery South of the Disch...prime spots for cheap.

The post I meant to put here but it made it into the RV thread:

The Athletic Department has put in lots of research to find the best ways to mess up the tailgating and parking. Their hard work and money have paid off as evidence shows the past 3 or so years.

There are some pay parking lots, but I'm not sure you can buy three or four spots in order to have a tailgate party. You would have to get there early to get several spots together. There's probably some way to do it, but UT has restricted every street and lot in order to extract as much money as is humanly possible from football game fans, so be prepared to be held upside down and shaken to see how much money falls out of your pockets.

Set up your tailgate in the parking lot of the State Health Dept bldg at 51st and Lamar. Plenty of parking/tailgate space there. Then about 45 minutes before kickoff, ride the Cap Metro shuttle bus to the stadium in time for kickoff. After the game, Cap Metro will even give you a ride back to the parking lot. Problem solved

There are buses that come and go from there, if that's confirmation. I assume the state wouldn't care if you parked there as long as you clean up after yourselves.

I wonder if you could get up at the butt crack of dawn and set up a tailgate on that street that runs between the two areas of the cemetery near Dischfaulk? It's close to the stadium and free. They might give you **** for doing it on the street though.

And yes, people totally tailgate in the parking garages. It's kinda funny... I've seen a lot of people tailgate there for the away-team, and then give Texas fans **** as they walk by.

Never mind... LHF68 just pointed out to me that you couldn't drink there b/c it's not private property.

Maybe go ahead and book a whole bunch of rooms at that Doubletree right there on I35 and then tailgate in their parking lot?

Being a state lot that is not used for tailgating (the state lots near the campus now require permits paid in advance) I think the cops would say nay. There are lots of families mingling about and I don't know how conducive it would be.

For sure ask first.

How about off in one of the corners of the giant HEB parking lot (38th and RR). Wouldnt have to go far for supplies and the RR shuttle goes right by it and the stadium.

Is there an RR shuttle on football days or is it just the usual Cap Metro city bus? It it is the latter then they run on a very reduced schedule on a Saturday and run a smaller bus. Do they do the HEB shuttles still? I thought the Barton Creek and IF parking lot shuttles replaced them.

Again, with a parking lot, if you are consuming beer the businesses there may have a problem with it.

Ok, ok, my post about tailgating near the Intramural Fields was a joke.... And judging by how seriously people are taking it, it was a very BAD joke

Ha, I sorta thought so but just wanted to be sure. I know they are Tech fans and all but I don't want anybody to get their tailgate shut down and/or go to jail. I want them to be present to see their team get dog stomped.
