I don't cook Mexican food that often and want to make either ground beef tacos or ground beef enchiladas this weekend, Does anyone have a prepackaged spice mix they would recommend.
I know you're asking for a prepackaged mix, but from-scratch seasoning is terribly easy and tastes better, IMO. All you need is some cumin, chili powder, chopped onion, chopped jalapenos, minced garlic and salt and pepper to taste.
Also, many seasoning packets contain starches to give the sauce a gravy-like consistency, so throw in some corn, potato or whatever-is-your-preferred starch to achieve the same effect.
Gem...I understand your view on making your own, but I save a lot of time adding the "basic" ingredients and mixing in my own "flavor" with everything "extra".
I brown the ground beef with some chopped onions, season with salt and pepper, and then throw in some minced garlic toward the end.
Drain the grease, then add a jar of your favorite salsa (1/2 jar if you're using a big one like Pace, but I usually have a smaller jar of Austin's Grand Prize around the house) . Mix in a couple tablespoons of chili powder, 1tsp -2 teaspoons of comino, 1/2tsp -1 teaspoon of Mexican oregano, and anything else you like (1/2 tsp to 1 tsp of chipotle powder is good if you like the smoky spiciness of that, I actually use more but I like it hot). Let it simmer and cook down to whatever consistency you prefer.
I too understand that the OP was looking for a pre-packaged mix, but it probably takes me only 20 seconds longer to get out the various spices and add them individually.
