T.J. Vasher

T.J. Vasher of Wichita Falls Rider was recently offered by Ohio State. He is a 6' 5" WR and is very good. Same high school as J.T. Barrett. Rider's coach was not too happy with the way Barrett was recruited by Texas then told not to visit. The coach's dad was a huge longhorn fan, also. Vasher is related to Nathan Vasher, who spent time in Wichita Falls as a youth. I hope Charlie takes a look at him and at least gets a visit. I heard he is attending OU's junior day this weekend.

I think TJ Vasher is coming to our junior day in two weeks though, so maybe things are okay. But this may be a case where we may not take him in the end because we are just simply loaded at WR with four 4-stars taken this year and 2 more top-100 four-stars committed in 2016 already. Hard to imagine us taking more than 3 wide receivers in the 2016 class and there are three outstanding offers out there (4-stars top-50 Devin Duvernay, top-75 Mykel Jones of LA, and top-300 Tre Nixon from Florida).

Interestingly, all of our WR targets except commit Collin Johnson are expected to be at the Junior day! Commit hemphill-Mapps, Duvernay, Jones, Nixon, Vasher. The only one without an offer right now is Vasher, and my guess is that he will get it this month or soon thereafter.

Not sure if the HS coach's old issue with the JT Barrett recruiting matters much now to Vasher. He is supposed to be pretty high on Texas right now. We just need to offer, but I can understand our staff's issue with the numbers too. They may want to get a good sense of whether it is worth going hard after Duvernay, Jones and Nixon before offering Vasher.

The other thing with Vasher is that he is a bean-pole (he has basketball offers from SMU, Tulsa etc) at 6-4 height. I guess it is tougher to predict how he will be, when he goes from 175 pounds to say 200 for college football.

By the way, Collin Johnson announced yesterday that he will be an early enrollee in January 2016. The dude is already college-ready. Pencil him in, to get on the field quickly in 20016 itself. Monster recruit.

Reggie-Hemphill Mapps said yesterday that his plan is also to graduate by December and enroll in January 2016. Even better!

We are in terrific shape with respect to wide receivers, in quality, quantity and versatility (in height and speed). We only need somebody to throw the ball to them

He is the only guy who has taken a college snap in our team. QB all the way. I think he will be smart to do a John Chiles and get on the field later in 2015 at TE or something though, if we have somebody else doing fine at QB.
