SXSW Music Free Day Shows

I had a great SXSW this year!
I was asked to run the in-house video camera at Stubb's for the Wednesday and Thursday night shows. So I got a perch on the best seat in the house for some great bands.

Wednesday - Spoon, Broken Bells, The Walkmen, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings and Visqueen.

Thursday - Broken Social Scene, Band of Horses, Drive By Truckers, The Soft Pack, The Besnard Lakes and Robert Francis

Slept in friday. Made it out to Mean Eyed Cat for the Graham Wilkinson showcase. Saw Angelo Spencer, The Spirit Family Reunion, Paleface, Kimya Dawson, and Graham Wilkinson

Saturday got up early. I planned on camping out to make it into the Mohawk for the Mog Showcase. Lineup: Free Energy, Demolished Thoughts (with Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth and Jay Mascis of Dinosaur Jr) , Broken Bells, The Antlers, and The Black Keys.

Then I walked over to my friends wine bar, Uncorked, to see The Magic Waters play.

Sunday was spent lavishing attention on my wife and dog.


Lets hear about your SXSW experiences. What band did you hear will blow up this year?

We went to the free show on the East side stage to see Andrew WK on Saturday. After his show, we were suprised to get to see GWAR, which was hilarious.

After that we went to Flipnotics to see a band called Paper Bird b/c we'd be told they were a SX must see-- they were so good we went to see them again on Sunday at Guerros

I was at the Shores Thursday and Friday. All acts were very good. Bajofondo stood out on Thursday. Cheap Trick kicked some serious butt Friday...even without their all time drummer, Bun E. Carlos. It's somewhat of a mystery as to why he wasn't there. Rick Nielsen's son did a fine job filling in.

didn't anybody get to see ****** Up at Red 7? Any 3am shows on the Pedestrian Bridge this year?

The bass player for ****** Up played with Demolished Thoughts on Saturday.
There were 3am shows on the bridge. As I was riding my bike home @ 3am on thursday night I gave directions to the bridge to a group of people from London.
