rivals has a artical about swoopes probly switching positions in college. anyone heard if we are trying to get him to change positions or still recruiting him as a qb? If so would this give us a better chance on getting Heard

I approve of anything that will give us a chance of getting Head.

I swear sometimes I want to go to the RIVALS main office and stab everyone in the eyeballs.

So Swoopes didn't do as well as he could have in one camp? There were a few other QBs who apparently didn't do as well as Swoopes. Is RIVALS suggesting that those other QBs are going to be re-ranked as "athletes?"

It smacks of racism if you ask me.

"So Swoopes didn't do as well as he could have in one camp?"

Actually two camps now.

"There were a few other QBs who apparently didn't do as well as Swoopes."

Not at Elite-11... the one everyone pays attention to. According to everyone, including the Orangebloods guys from Rivals, he was the lowest-rated QB out of everyone there (hence the enormous drop in rankings).

"It smacks of racism if you ask me."

I'd agree with you if this was Donnie Little attending Elite-11, but it wasn't. We've had our VY. And there's been guys like Vick and Russell Wilson and Thomas from Oregon. If anything, I think the "ATH" type of black quarterback has been somewhat extra-starred by the recruiting services.

I think it's way premature to be talking about moving Swoopes to another position. He's still got his senior year to play, I'm betting he's very improved after his summer of camping, and he's likely to redshirt when he gets to UT, which will give him even more time to work out any kinks in his passing game. It should be remembered that Vince was a work-in-progress at the passing game when he showed up at UT.

No kidding, coolhorn. Hornfans are hilarious.

After his performance at an earlier camp some were ready to proclaim him the next Vince. Ketchum said he throws better than Vince did at the same age. Now, after one camp in which he apparently didn't show out like he "should" have, people are ready for him to move to DE. And he hasn't even played his SR. season in high school yet!

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Which camp was it? The Elite 11? Or one of its prelim camps.

If so, not being top of the heap or making a great showing does not mean he doesn't have the skills. Almost no one can step from HS Jr. to major college and perform like an experienced QB. Give him some time and trust in your UT coaches.

Something else a lot of people keep overlooking about Swoopes...he plays at the two-A level. I'm not questioning his head coach's ability, but he doesn't play for a big Texas high school where there may be over a dozen assistant coaches. Swoopes is an undeniable talent, but that talent is very raw, and needs time and some coaching up. He has mostly relied on his native ability up to this point. There's just no satisfying some people, but for me, I choose to believe Harsin knows his business. Swoopes is his call...and I'm gonna respect that call. It speaks volumes that Swoopes made it to the Elite Eleven competition mostly on his innate talent.

Some people just get a lot more excited about the next big prospect. I can't remember who it was, but there was a poster on this board that used to drive me nuts suggesting that Ryan Perriloux would be so good as a freshman that Vince Young would be relegated to backup duty and wide receiver. That was just before Young had a pretty good season coming second in the Heisman race and first in the Rose Bowl MVP balloting.

It may have been an Aggie or a Louisiana poster coming over here. I remember suggesting something like "let's let the kid get to campus" and being put down like I was dumb.

not a aggie or lsu. Just worried about arbitration already. We look pretty good at qb right now but we have had alot of good qbs leave and now we are stuck with crap. I just hate to see it happen again and cant help but question it.

If you read up about his E11 audition you find that unlike his competition from big programs who are discouraged from playing other sports, at 2A Whiteright, Swoopes plays basketball, and runs several track events. When he showed up to the initial E 11 workouts, he was quoted as saying something like he hadn't picked up a football in several months. I think he has everything he needs to be successful but hasn't been able to focus exclusively on football yet. The most important thing I took from the articles I read was that he got a lot better after he became accustomed to the drills he was unfamiliar with and that he was very coachable. I think this kid could really shine given a chance.

No Worries on the Criticism. I mean come on... the kid did get invited to the FINALS of the Elite 11. That says something about the kids skills. If he was as horrible as some make him out to be, he would have never been invited to the finals. He has 1 year to go in High School, he has the intangibles and he has the physical skills to boot. My only worry is that the coaching staff is stock piling talent and we should have 3 excellent QB's all within a year of each other. Hope attrition doesn't take its course to early. This assuming the commitments are solid.

A comment above got me to thinking...right off the top of my head, I can't think of a single quarterback that has left the UT program in years that would likely start over either Ash or McCoy 2.0. The ones that left went where they could start ('Ole Miss, Tulsa, etc.) but the competition was a lot less at the new place. If they'd have been good enough, they would have hung in and competed at UT.

Idahoan -- wan't meaning to suggest you are like an Aggie or a Louisiana State fan. I know you aren't the source of this story and merely letting us in on something reported elsewhere.
