Switching to Apple

Bought a new HP laptop with Vista last August/September after wringing my hands whether or not to spend the extra $1,000 on a Mac, iPod, etc. Nine months later and it's easy to see that I made a mistake last summer.

Will soon buy both an iMac and iPod Touch and happily retire the HP laptop and sadly retire my Creative Zen mp3 player. Am I going to have a problem converting my library of mp3 and wmv files over into iTunes and ultimately the touch?

Mp3's won't be a problem at all. I have never tried to transfer the .wmv files. Can you convert those to mp3 first?

Not sure if you are in school or not, but apple just started a back to school promotion where if you buy certain computers you get a free ipod touch, FYI....I would like to make the switch as well, just dont have the cash....

There are a number of WMV conversion programs available, just go to macupdate.com and search under OS X software and you should have your pick. I've never used one, but most are shareware or freeware and you should be able to find one that works.

switched back to mac for the second time just last month. No problems w/ itunes conversion.

yeah. comparing a mac mini to a $1100 pc, the mac mini is going to lose on all front except space efficiency and aesthetics.

Right. They are nice little boxes though. My BIL uses his as an HTPC. Nice little setup, but from what I understand they have problems with even some 720p content, and 1080p is pretty much out of the question.

I think hooklama is comparing the mac mini to a $1100 2006 PC. that's about the only thing that makes sense.

I used the first generation Mac mini at my last job in LA. And I believe I quote Robin when I say-

"Holy bat **** Batman!"

The positive thing was that if I had been allowed to throw the thing against the side of the building (cement), I could have really gotten a good grip on the thing so as to smash the worthless piece of **** to bits. I don't really miss that thing.

Why all the hate? Mac minis are great for editing files with vi.

We have a Mac Mini that our receptionist uses. Works great, no issues.
