Swim Meet Question

I know there are a few swimmers on the board here. Got a question for which I can not find an answer.

Is it standard procedure to scratch swimmers from an entire meet if they miss a prelim heat for an event? or if they false start? This is a conference meet we are talking about here and several swimmers with top times are getting scratched.

I thought you could only be scratched from an event for something like that, not the entire meet. The only times I've ever seen anyone scratch from an entire meet was because of injury.

This was the whole meet. Heats and lanes were getting changed quite a bit as well. Two relays missed their prelim heat and were thus disqualified from the entire meet, AND nine swimmers false started in one day and were dq'd from the whole meet. Several of the swimmers dq'd were in the top 3 for that event. Something just was not right, but I don't know the rules.

The meet will not scratch you from remaining events, but if was some bone-headed thing, or purposeful, the coach sure might. Not sure what you are talking about, but also, in college dual meets, a lot of times when one team has enough points to win the meet, they don't try to continue to score, but scratch swimmers or have them swim but not compete for points.

Nope - they were scratched from the whole danged meet. It was definitely NOT the coach's decision for that. Three of the swimmers were on track to make some qualifying times for Nationals. There were changes in the heat sheets at the beginning of the meet, hence the medley relay missing their heat. They thought they were in heat 2, they were in heat 1. Same thing happened to another relay.

This was the conference championship meet. The fact, too that there were NINE false starts in one day (who were also dq'd for teh rest of the meet) tells me something was weird. I don't think I have ever seen that many false starts in a single meet ever.

Just frustrated and saddened for the swimmers that had to sit for 3 full days and watch as others got to swim.
