SWA to Mexico from Hobby

Looks like the big airlines are picking another fight with SWA. United has some nerve even challenging this. Since acquiring Continental, fares have skyrocketed out of Houston, service is terrible, and most jobs were moved to Chicago.

Allowing SWA to expand and improve Hobby while offering alternatives to Mexico and the Carribean is a no brainer - unless somebody gets bought at city hall.

Sorry is I misspoke on the legal terms of the merger. However, the service has sucked since the merger and prices have substantially increased for direct flights I routinely take. The recent integration of systems only made it worse.

As far as jobs, I guess local Houston news has reported erroneously? United has a long standing poor reputation amongst business travelers that I know.

More power to SWA. I live in Brazoria County, just 50 minutes from HOU. I've taken flights on SWA to destinations in the midwest even when AA or Continental were $20 cheaper or more, simply (1) because HOU is more convenient to me than IAH; and (2) the service on SWA continues to be SO much nicer than on the other carriers.

HA HA!

Now let's see if United tries to slip the mayor some complimentary first class vouchers for her "inconvenience" and get another chance to prove United's "outstanding customer service".

People that travel frequently know that some times things just go real bad (and can do so in a hurry). You learn to just find a quiet place to sit down and enjoy the madness.

I fly UA/CO all the time and am rarely inconvenienced. Do I encounter UA/CO employees that don't know ****, yeah every once in a while, but that's an exception. Its a good airline and I won't let the twice a year fliers tell me differently.

Granted, the last couple weeks have been horrendous for UA/CO, as they are in the process of merging two gigantic airlines with completely different systems. In the eyes of the FAA they merged in October when they were granted a SOC, but in the eyes of passengers they merged 2 weeks ago. Up until then, both companies operated two different websites and two different reservation systems that did not talk to each other. They spent over a year doing practice runs and prepping, then they flipped a switch to combine them and guess what, there were problems. All the people on here with complaints from the past two-three weeks, just wait until Southwest and AirTran merge their systems in a couple years. You will see the exact same thing. How do I know? Because we saw it with Delta/NWA, UA/CO, and we will see it again with SWA/ATA. It's inevitable when you have a system that operates 24/7 with so many variables. As one Southwest executive notes, “the transition to a single ticketing system is a large and complex process that will take several years to complete.”

I'm no big fan of SWA. I liked Continental but now they're just a whole lot of suck. So, competition is good. We need our airlines to go back and learn what customer service means.

Why in the world does SWA need to get anything "approved" if it wants to offer flights to Mexico? It's an independent company, it should be free to make it's own business choices about when, where and how much it charges for flying with them.

I haven't flown UA/Continental since the merger, but we are flying to Seattle from Austin in June and prices are thru the roof on EVERY airline. SWA is not always the cheapest way to go either. Crossing our fingers that UA/Continental will still be the good quality of service I came to know with Continental.

There's no reason your service should change all that much. If your flying out or through a Continental hub, the majority of people you'll be interacting with will be sub-CAL employees. Not that it matters, gate agents are always pissed off at the world, but that's also because they more than anybody have to deal with the world, which usually causes them to be pissed at it.
