SWA flight stranded, Capt orders pizza for all

Good intentions. But now you're stuck in a tube with a bunch of traveling salesman with their heartburn and gas.

As someone who has traveled every week for about 6 years, I think SWA makes everyone else look like they're running in circles. SWA certainly isn't the cheapest option anymore, though. AA is usually cheaper on an advanced purchase, but AA hates their passengers so much, the flight staff would likely rather watch a passenger die of a heart attack in his seat than render aid.

Agree about SW, and the irony is that I'm an AA miles guy - if I didn't have a bunch of points with them, I'd probably never use them. I've had some bad experiences (although better lately, it seems). Our MBA class did a case study on SW and it's pretty interesting to see how they've developed that corporate culture. There's not another airline out there where pilots would be out on the tarmac helping to load baggage in order to get a late plane off the ground. So not only do they preach it, but I think most of their employees across the board really buy into it. Now if only their seats were more comfortable...

I've met and know several SWA employees. I marvel at how they care about their companies. I've met Delta and AA employees who were paid better yet seemed to hate their jobs and their companies.
I sat by a SWA pilot during one flight and he shared with me that he'd cheerfully help the baggage handlers to get the plane off on time. His airline was expanding while others were contracting. He said he participated in interviews to get recruit new pilots from those laid off by competitors. He said that when pilots show up to interview in natty uniforms, the SWA interviewers aske them to take off their jackets and starched shirts and put on a SWA t-shirt for the interview.
Several turned away in disgust. "Those guys would never have worked in our culture," the pilot told me, pleased at the time saved.

Pretty cool that the CEOs of two major airlines are Texas grads.

Someone should make a list of company CEOs that have degrees from Texas.

I applaud this pilot and SWA

I briefly worked at both airlines in the IT industry.

SW airlines is a fun bunch who have employees who care alot. I'll say this is not as good as it used to be though.

AA hires lots of Harvard MBAs with no practical experience to run their company. The culture is like socialist and communism at its best. They hire tons and tons of people to do small projects that a few good folks could do. They create the most complex business models and processes that almost no one can understand and follow. Good folks don't want to work their because the differences between new hires and very senior people is almost the same. The pay sucks, they assume the flight benefits are worth at least a 40% reduction in pay. The long time employees there are definitely not cream of the crop. There are lots of good folks there, but 80% dead weight. There is a ton of politics with little concern about what's best for the company or customers.

In the meantime at AA, they have some good pilots, but the flight attendants need to be broke up. Their union treats anyone not in a union as "management". There is a definite hate - hate relationship between the parties. I

I think it was once a pretty good company to fly with (80s - early 90s), but those days are long gone. I think AA had a good "Brand", but it is lost with "walmarting "of the company.
