why are they not gonna redshirt Hills (presuming, since he played tonight) when McGee, Ogbannaya, Johnson all got carries before him, and thats not even counting Fozzy...
there are not enough carries to go around

what if he wanted to play defensive tackle? that's not his call to make, IMO. Barring something bad that I dont even want to mention, him getting 10-25 meaningless carries this year will be a complete waste

Another way of asking the question is why should Mack redshirt him? I talking specifically about running backs here. If the guy is awesome, he is gone after his sophomore year with a redshirt or after his junior season without a redshirt. If the guy is mediocre, do you really care? I'm assuming that we continue paying for his education after his eligibility is up. Running back is a position that a true freshman can come in and be great. QB, OL, and other positions are not that way.

Now if we are talking about a great safety prospect who they blow his redshirt playing running back, then we have a different discussion.
