SUV Rear Hatch Supports (?)

Anyone know what these things are called? The ones that hold up and help you raise the rear hatch of my jeep cherokee are shot, and it won't stay up, but just slowly eases its way down.

Anyone ever replaced these? I'm wondering if it's possible (it looks like they unscrew on the hatch, but I can't see where they unscrew at the bottom on the inside of the opening of the jeep frame itself.

How difficult are they to replace, how expensive, and where can I get them? I assume I'll need to call and order them from somewhere.

Yes, I have replaced them on Hondas and a few other cars. They are called hatchback struts, or hood struts if they are in the front. You can go to the dealer and get OE (original equipment) ones, which will fit correctly and last as long as the original ones did, or go to your local auto parts store and get whatever they have listed, which might be somewhat generic to fit lots of different cars, and might not fit right, and might have to be adapted, and might not have the same tension as the originals, and won't last as long as the originals.
