Sutton axed at OSU......

Holder hates ES because of comments he made during a state tour meeting boosters in those cross state caravan things coaches do about going to the Elite 8, Sweet 16 is every bit as impressive as winning a NC in Golf.
Holder & him had a rift every since then & I guess Holder remembered it when he became AD.

Yeah, I'm not buying any xxx got fired or xxx is going pro type stories that come up today.

If they still have legs tomorrow I might pay attention.

I would have a hard time believing a major news source anywhere USA would pull a HA HA on someone who has been rumored to get fired all season.
It's pretty big on the radio from all the news casters who host shows & people close to the program up there.
I'd be fall out of my chair shocked if this was a prank.
Newsline 9 on TV & the DOK are reporting it.

Listening to ESPN radio online and they are talking about Pickens is willing to pay whatever it takes for a big time coach. Early rumors include Self and BCG.

They seriously think they can get Self? Leave Kansas, who's in the Final Four and in national title contention every year, for OSU? Silly cowpokes.

Gottlieb said last night Self might be offered $5MM/year! If that is really true and Self takes it, that would send a ripple effect throughout college hoops, including a raise for Barnes and Co., and in the end leaving my precious FEC tickets more expensive than they already are. So for purely selfish reasons I hope Self stays at KU.

This is a sad day. Quin Snyder last year and now this. Who is the worst coach in the Big XII now? Frank Martin? Crappy conference coaches keep things more fun!

But in all seriousness, while I never cheer for someone's axing, this is a good move on OSU's part.

As a job, I don't think he'd take it... at least not now.

But for 5 mil? That would require some thought.

BTW, I don't think he's that good of a coach.

The other rumor you hear attached to him is that he could become the coach of the Sonics when they get to OKC.

On a separate note, good ridance. I am sooooo tired of ES. He has the bitchiest attitude of anyone in NCAA basketball. He yells so much he passes out and has a constant glare, what the hell is his problem?!?!

PS This is a comment on him being fired, not arguing for termination.

As a college coach, I'm not sure I would ever make the jump to the Pro's unless it waqs a really good program.
Most college coaches take over the crap jobs in the Pro's & that usually doesn't work out very well.
The same in most cases w/ college coaches taking over for a Pro football team.

No surprise, to tell you the truth. I was watching them earlier this season and they were incredibly sloppy and disorganized. Their offense was dribble for 30 seconds and then hoist up a 3. Their offense kind of used to be like that but the defense is a shadow of what it used to be.

I also noticed that during every OSU timeout, it was Dickey who was doing the coaching. Sutton was just standing there sweating.

His team had no depth at all last year and this season started with this situation (per ESPN):

"Guard JamesOn Curry skipped his senior season to enter the NBA draft, and a turbulent offseason followed. In a three-month span, three Oklahoma State players were arrested. Immediately before the school year began, projected starter Kenny Cooper decided to transfer."

Given that, I'm not sure he got a fair shake with only two years. Still, he's getting 750k a year for the next 3 so it's hard to feel sorry for him.

The Self interview on ESPN was just weird. He stuttered a ton and the way he denied the rumors was not normal at all. ""I spent 11 years of my life at OSU and everything, but nobody there has contacted me from there. If they were to ask me what they should do, I would suggest they go a different direction." It's just not that hard to say yea I care about my alma mater, but I am very happy here at KU and have no intentions of leaving.

It'll be interesting to see who Pickens throws money at and how they respond.

Hate to agree with a sooner, but Since has pretty well nailed this. I have had relation going to school there for about 10 years. It is all about personalities and Holder hating the Suttons and of course Holder on his knees for Pickens. I hope Bill Self tells them to stick it in their ***. I hope OSU goes back to basketball before ES. That was mediocre at best for 20 years. Holder and Pickens littlerly blew their first womans hire and the had 2 years of terrible basketball. I hope this blows up in their face bigtime! If those two dwebs think OSU doesn't owe Eddie Sutton for putting OSU basketball back on the map, they are crazy. Money talks though and when the giver thinks he knows everything then you better watch out! Gundy has blow a couple of years too, but he is judged on a complete different yardstick!

When you look at the Okie State athletic program, consider that their two money making sports are coached by people who were purely sentimental hires who would not have jobs at any other Big 12 school.

That doesn't bode well for an athletic program and it doesn't show a good track record of making hires. Judging by that, I'm thinking this will blow up in their face.

Mr. Orange-I agree with some of what you say, but not all. The only thing I think OSU owed Eddie was to give his kid a chance and I don't think they did that. It was all about Holder hating Eddie's ***. That is a piss poor way to run the Ad's office. I don't think it has been proven in 2 years that Sean can't coach. He was had some bad luck with players leaving and that kind of stuff which is normal, but I think he should have been given more time. I read an article the other day on Sean and Pat Knight and they both live with that cloud. Sure they aren't as good a coach as their fathers are right now, but hell give them a chance! I hope this blows up in their face big time and they have to settle for the 4th or 5th one they offer it to. Sean still beat us in one of the great games of all time IMO 105-103 in 3 OT's. Kevin Durant was on fire and we should have and could have won that one.

Sean Sutton was lost and Dickey was doing all the coaching. Hell, Dickey was doing all the coaching for the pilled-out Eddie Sutton, too.

Dickey has probably seen more pills and booze than a roadie for Motley Crue circa 1984.

What does OSU owe Eddie Sutton? They took a chance and allowed him to coach again. He turned out well but spent the last 5 years of his tenure drunk.

The problem with OSU athletics is like Texas A&M, they overestimate their place in the college football/basketball world. OSU had a good basketball team under Iba. They were irrelevant for over 30 years and then Sutton came back. With that track record, they think they're an elite basketball school.

They think they'll get Self. Instead, they'll get a coach at a small school.
