a friend is coming through town with his new wife on sunday.
they love sushi, and want to go get some.
i tried musashino last weekend and loved it. some reccommend Sushi Sake.

i am aware that sushi discussion/argument appears on this board, but mine only asks one simple narrow question.
I know it is probably not AS good as Musashino, but it it less expensive.

my question is: is the price difference worth the drop down in quality (if there is one)?

Someone actually recommended Kenichi.

I'm speechless.

Yes, I guess if you want to pay a 25% premium to eat good, but not great, sushi, while surrounded by the West Austin snot crowd, then by all means, Kenichi is your place.

If you want great sushi, Musashino is a better bet, and from what I understand talking to several other folks, Mikado is a strong rival for the top spot.

Kenichi is for people with bleached teeth, black shirts, and more money than sense.

haven't tried Mikada yet, but have had most other Austin sushi. Musashino is hands down the best, 'specially if you're willin' to drop a little cash. Kenichi is okay, but your gonna spend a lot more for a lot less, plus the place is usually full of Zoolanders and their equally unintelligent dates...but if you plan on going out after dinner, you can't beat the location.
There's also a place on the east end of sixth which is decent. Honestly though, in comparison to Musashino there's not much to recomend.

And I am speechless as well...someone made some really clever comments about Kenichi and the crowd that goes there...once again, to each his own...

Musashino is fine, especially if you like rolls and the such. I prefer to go with sashimi and I have never been impressed with the cut or quality of the sashimi I have ordered from there. That being said, I am fine with paying a little more at Kenichi for what I believe is much better fish...

Kenichi Musashino Mikado

I will spend the Laborday weekend in Austin and will give a very detailed report on the above three including what I ordered, atmosphere, price, fish quality, service, and etc. Please dont despair if "youre place" comes in second or third. But also remember that my word is final and that is it. I will post the results of the contest in Cactus Cafe.

ook, just found out that we'll be eating lunch, not dinner. thus musashino is out (not open). now im debating between sushi sake and mikado. definitely looks like mikado at this point. everyone i know who goes to sushi sake does so for the price. but mikado seems to be comparable in price, and ive heard much better things about the quality of it.

Mikado is much better than Sushi Sake, especially for lunch.

I've recently eaten lunch at both and came away fro Sushi Sake rather disappointed, while Mikado was excellent
