Surprise! Debt Supercommittee struggling w/ plan

The supercommittee was a bad idea fashioned to get them out of a tight spot. These aholes play chess one move at a time.

They will survive this dilemna by abolishing the supercommittee and revamping the method by which they will reduce the debt in the future.

We have the best and the brightest running the country and this is what we should expect up until the time we reach the same status as Italy or South Africa or maybe Hungary if we are lucky.

Then things will get really nasty.

the supercommitte was not expected to do anyhting. they planted some flowers on top of a pile of dog **** so that you would forget about what was underneath.

The whole thing is a crock of ****. BO ALREADY comissioned a debt panel and that panel made great proposals. It was summarily ignored by BO. Why would this be any different. He will probably appoint a new comittee to study why this comittee failed. Before that he will say the Rep wont agree to new taxes.

It was always a stupid idea. Because Congress and the White House didn't have the balls to come up with their own deficit reduction plan, it assigned the task to a group of partisans and gave it the power to put a gun to Congress' head if it doesn't adopt the committee's recommendation.

My prediction - the committee will deadlock (since it has no compromisors or moderates on it), and we'll be back where we were a few months ago. Even if it had some moderates on it, it would split the difference between the two sides and recommend a plan, and Congress would reject the plan, repeal the "gun" that's at its head, and kick the can further down the road.

I think the people who most hate Ivy Leaguers are those who are insecure about their standing in life. I didn't go to Harvard- I went to Texas- and I damn well would prefer Ivy Leaguers over Idaho State running our country.

Clearly you don't like Palin. What you fail to realize is that there are many dumbasses that go to ivy league schools as well. all types go to ivy league schools. you have people like me that were offered entry in exchange for athletic skills (i turned one such school down and went to tx instead), you have privileged kids that had great tutors to help them succeed, you have politically connected both on the left and right, and you have really extremely bright kids, some without a lick of common sense. I know two engineers that are as smart as anyone i know that both went to ou, i know two excellent lawyers that went to tx tech, i have two very smart friends who are ingenious entrepreneurs and went to a&m.

You seem to have an obsession with ivy league eduated people. i didnt go to an ivy league school because i had to pay my own way and i didnt want to have a $200,000 debt hanging over my head with only an undergraduate degree. many so-called educated ivy-leaguers ignore this fact, go get their english literature degree from yale, have a 200k debt and are pissed they can't find a job that can pay it off. if you want someone that can reason like that, call me unimpressed.

This is extremely anecdotal and is just my personal experience.

I have worked with 3 Harvard MBAs over the years. 1 was damn good and the other 2 were horrible.

All 3 could espouse theory very well and could put together killer spreadsheets and presentations and knew all of the latest business jargon. All 3 were very smart.

The problem came with the action side of things. The 2 bad ones could not pick up the phone and sell an idea to someone at all. I could not hand them a problem and expect it to get resolved easily. They tended to have very little self confidence in their abilities to actually solve problems or sell a product and they masked it with an attityude of superiority that put off everyone else in the organization.

This is not true just of Harvard. It is true of probably every college. The point is that Ivy League grads are pretty consistently very smart and that is it. If they dont have good work ethics, good people skills, good leadership abilities and the ability to get things done then their smarts are worthless except in academia.

Bush went to an Ivy League, and half of the posters on this forum think he was the dumbest sunofabitch to ever hold office. I think less weight should come from a diploma's header, and more from what kind of true leadership one displays. Clearly, neither an Ivy Leaguer nor measly old state school grads in Congress can get this resolved. I don't care if some pol never even graduated from high school, as long as he can corral this group of ignorant dipshitz we call "leaders".

I agree that this deadline could be 25 years away, but whom we currently have in office simply lacks the intellect, leadership, honesty and integrity to truly tackle the issues and improve the direction of this country. Instead, we get a bunch of dorks whistling past gravesites and kicking cans.
