Superliga 2008

It's nice to see the Mexican club Atlante living down to the Mexican soccer tradition of playing like absolute scum of the earth when their team is behind.

They ended with 9 players after several intentional fouls. Then after the game their goalie, among others, starts shoving people and throwing a small punch. They also had sideline staff trying to start fights.

Too bad we don't have hooligans waiting to "greet" their team bus.

Funny you should mention that. I was just - I mean just - reading about that match. The Link
I didn't even know there was such a thing as "Superliga" until about 10 minutes ago. How interesting. And yes, typical.

I don't believe the game was televised. Or if it was, I overlooked it when I checked the listings this morning. Bummer, because I would've loved to have watched it. If I'm not mistaken, the semifinal results seem to imply that the quality of professional soccer in the US exceeds that of Mexico.

The internet is your friend.ALL games are broadcast FREE on MLSNET website.

That's www. mlsnet. com

The final is HOUSTON vs. NEW ENGLAND

That has a familiar ring to it.

I am curious how well the MLS teams would do if they played this tournament in their pre-season against teams that are well into their own season, and the games were played exclusively in Mexico. Do you think the results would be the same? That's the Mexican teams big *****. But, they know that if the Superliga was played in Mexico, it would be played to empty stadiums, and they can't get away with charging egregious amounts for tickets. I am a big fan of Mexican soccer, but I will always be extremely critical of how it is run. The suits would throw their own kids to the wolves if it meant they could make an additional .0005% profit. It is a league that imports talent, and would rather put a thrid division brazilian over a young mexican on the pitch. They puff their chests out and talk about how great they are, but do next to nothing to invest in the infrastructure of the sport. In other words, they have a trojan appetite for victory, but they do not have the spartan will to sacrifice for it. Thank god the best players have escaped to europe.

As far as Atlante's thuggery, beleive me, I hate it as much as the next guy. It is an embarrassment, and the worst thing about the game. I wish it was only a Mexican thing, but it's not. Sadly, it is prevalent in all of Latin America. Curiously, three of the four players who were red carded are not mexicans.

In Houston it's on Telefutura (sp?), I watched the entire 2nd half of the Dynamo vs. Pachuca game in Spanish and it was great!

As far as the monies in Mexico, I am sure that you understand that Mexico has top to bottom the most lucrative league in the Americas. Superliga has nothing to do with MLS. It all about SUM. And SUM wouldn't exist if it wasn't for the huge market Mexican teams have in the US.

Sadly, because of its inflated salaries, it is the main reason it is an importing league, like the Prem. Although this year I beleive the ratio was close to 65%-70% Mexican, which is not the norm.
