At least 48 killed by the storms last night.
We've had over 200 tornadoes reported since Jan. 1st of this year. Very unusual. It will interesting to see if the season ends early, or if we're headed for a violent spring/summer.
As a political leader he really shouldn't make comments like that so soon after a tragedy like this, and until the science is there to back it up.

These storms need an intrusion of warm, humid air into the central US. That happened on Monday/Tuesday and then a cold front swung down.
In a normal winter weather pattern that's not going to happen often, if at all, until late February or early March.
Warmer climate won't neccessarily lead to more or deadlier tornadoes; it could even lead to fewer if the weather pattern is more moderate. It is very likely to extend the tornado season, which typically peaks between March to June.
