Just watched this on dvd. While it received mixed response and was deemed technically implausible by most science experts, the special effects and acting were pretty good IMO. After all, it is science fiction.

I do have one question for those that have seen the film.

***Mild Spoiler Alert***

How does Pinbacker the Captain of Icarus I get aboard Icarus II? I assume it was through the airlock after the two ships were connected, but surely someone would have detected his presence.

I really enjoyed this movie up to this point and then it lost me a bit, but I would still recommend it. I'm sure that he simply went through the airlock, I would assume once they have a connection there isn't any security alarm. In fact seeing that they are in the middle of space, I doubt there is much of any alert of a new presence. The computer was aware of the new presence but must not have been programmed to announce it.

This was one of those movies best seen in the movie theater, in my opinion.

Technical plausibility as a legitimate critique for a movie is overrated. Either the people making the movie give enough to create a suspension of disbelief or they don't. People going to see a science fiction movie are always going to be a little more liberal than someone seeing something more reality based. Given that, I thought they did a great job of selling the setting.

Besides, the "technical implausibility" was just a McGuffin anyway, a reason to put the characters in their isolated situation.

Overall I enjoyed the movie, but I felt the addition of the of the old captain was a useless turn. All of the crew were more or less doomed from the get go, so I didn't really get the point.

There was one aspect I thought was pretty cool, and wish they had made better use of. When the crazy captain held the scarecrow over the side of the cube, it seemed as though the gravity of the cube prevented the scarecrow from falling all the way to his death. The reality is for a majority of the trip the crew would have experienced gravity, but it would have been supplied entirely by the cube. and "up" should have been in relation to it at all times.
