We still need to get the scoreboard back. Two years ago, I just took in my 'we just one a NC' stride as an 'oh, well, they were gonna win one sooner or later." Last year, it was much more irksome. We have to restore order this year.

I tend to think Franchione’s tenure is more or less the long-term norm for A&M, given the monolithic success of its most recent competitors over the vast majority of the last half century – since Bear Bryant, TAMU has only succeeded at a very high level when Texas and Oklahoma are relatively down...

Absolutely correct, but something only a handful of sportswriters (none from Texas) and an unnamed Nike rep has dared to utter.
 
Since 1996, the start of Big 12 play, the Aggies are a collective 2-13 against the other BCS conferences.

Texas A&M 1996-2007:
1-5 versus current ACC
0-2 versus SEC
0-3 versus Big 10
0-2 versus Pac 10
1-1 versus current Big East
