I'll be updating this throughout the day. Here's what we've got so far:Loser's Bracket

Kansas 5, Coastal Carolina 1
Land Thieves 7, Washington State 2
Western Ky. 11, Missouri 6
Minnesota 15, Baylor 12
Oregon State 13, aggy 5

Championship Round

Texas 14, Army 10
North Carolina 12, Kansas 1
Clemson 15, Okie Lite 1
Rice 8, Kansas State 0
Arky-Saw 11, Land Thieves 0

Overall, it's been a good postseason for the Big 12 so far. The league is 12-5 at the moment, though a couple of losses are pending.

Baylor and Oklahoma State have certainly earned their invitations. aggy and Mizzou, however, have embarrassed themselves. I expected more from both; then again, I'm an idiot.

OU has gone final with a 7-2 victory over Washington State at the Normal regional.

Garrett Richards pitched a complete game, allowing two earned runs on five hits and a walk while collecting 10 strikeouts. Excellent performance from Richards.

UPDATES:

Baylor had a nightmare in the top of the eighth, allowed five runs and now trails Minnesota, 10-5.

Oregon State tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth and is now sheep-shagging aggy, 11-1.

Missouri's deficit to Western Ky. is now eight runs, 11-3.

Elsewhere, Rice is exterminating Xavier, 11-1, and Clemson is blanking Tenn. Tech, 9-0. I mention those because they impact tonight's Kansas State and Oklahoma State match-ups.

GSJ,

(since posting, I found the real-time CBS bracket link)

Is this summary correct....

In final games of regionals:

Kansas (2-1)
Kansas State (2-0)
Oklahoma (2-1)
Oklahoma State (2-0)
Texas (2-0)

Probably out, losing bad:

Baylor
A&M
Missouri

Missouri becomes the first Big 12 team to be eliminated from the 2009 NCAA Tournament. The Tigers mustered three runs in the top of the ninth, but it was much too little, much too late as Western Kentucky defeats them for the second time in three days, 11-6.

Baylor most likely very soon to follow.

Thanks, as noted, I found the live bracket at CBS.

Not too shabby for the Big 12, 5 teams in at least a first round championship game. Particularly, if KU can squeak out a win over North Carolina, a top 4 national seed.

Winning that regional would be huge, but KU would have to win 2 straight over the Tar Heels.

Uh, no.

OTOH, OSU going into their final at 2-0, with some hand ringing nationally as to whether a "bottom dweller" of the Big 12 deserved a bid, well...

I've got mixed emotions about KSU vs. Rice. Kind of like seeing your mother-in-law driving off a cliff --- in your new Mercedes Benz.

If Baylor is to rally and keep its postseason alive, it will need a monumental bottom of the ninth. The Bears now trail Minnesota by 10 runs, 15-5, despite taking a 5-2 advantage into the seventh.

Meanwhile, Kansas and North Carolina are underway in the championship round of the Chapel Hill regional. KU will need to take two from the Tarheels to reach the super regional.

GSJ, agreed

However, one game in which I hope BOTH teams are disqualified from further competition, well, just because, is the OU/piggy finals.

Grudging respect for Rice and KSU.

OU and Arkansas.

Man, it's going to be a heyday for gum chewing, white belted, plaid pants wearing, motor home and mobile home salesmen in the tailgating area at this game.

Incidentally, Baylor has plated a run and loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the ninth versus Minnesota. Only problem is the Bears still trail the Gophers by nine runs.

UPDATE: Amazing!!!! The Bears have scored six times in the bottom of the ninth and still have a man on with NO outs. The score is now 15-11. Dare the Bears dream?

Man, a KSU - Baylor super regional would be a hoot. Not what the committee planned - Rice v LSU.

WAY ahead of it all, but does the super regional move if neither top seeds make it?

Edit: Oh, never mind.

Baylor has pushed across another run and now trails, 15-12, in the bottom of the ninth. The Bears are down to the final strike of their final out, however.

UPDATE: Groundout to short ends the game, the tournament and the season for Baylor, which becomes the second Big 12 team eliminated from the 2009 NCAA Tournament. As previously noted, aggy not far behind.

North Carolina draws first blood versus Kansas, striking for three runs in the top of the third and still threatening (bases juiced, one out).

UPDATE: After an out, North Carolina's Garrett Gore sends one over the right-field fence for a grand slam. The Tarheels now lead Kansas early, 7-0.

In a season full of expectation (preseason No.1), promise (in the mix for the Big 12 title and a regional hosting), and then disappointment (wallowing at the finish by dropping two of three versus the Longhorns, getting swept by ZeroU, and scapegoating an umpire for all of it), aggy fittingly bows out on a called strike three. That's right--Oregon State tops aggy, 13-5, for the second time in three days.

With the loss, aggy becomes the third Big 12 team eliminated from the 2009 NCAA Tournament.

Rice gets a complete-game gem from Jared Rogers to topple Xavier, 12-5, and advance to the championship round of the Houston regional. The Owls will face Kansas State in about an hour and will need to take two in order to advance to the supers.

Rogers yielded five earned runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out seven. He faded down the stretch, giving up two runs apiece in the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings, but Graham no doubt needed to preserve his pen more than he needed a double-digit victory.

Clemson has finished putting away Tennessee Tech, 10-0, to set up a Clemson regional championship round date with surprising Oklahoma State. The Cowboys are in the catbird's seat, however, on account of edging Clemson, 3-2, yesterday.

With the loser's bracket games involving Big 12 teams officially complete, the league's record now stands at 13-8. The five remaining ballclubs have reached the championship round of their respective regionals. Of those, three are undefeated and should be odds-on favorites to advance to the supers. Another, BlowU, will have the home crowd at its back as it tries to take two from Arky-Saw.

I had punched up a lengthy recap of tonight's championship round clashes, but the third brownout of the evening wiped it out. *sigh* It's always an adventure living in a place where Tom & Jerry control the power grid.

Anyway, suffice it to say that the Big 12 took a collective punch to the gut Sunday. The league went 1-4, with the lone bright spot very nearly being the darkest moment of all. Hopefully, K-State and Okie Lite can bounce back from their lopsided losses to win their respective regionals and reach the supers.

As it stands, the Big 12 is currently 14-12 through the first three days of the 2009 NCAA Tournament.
