Sullivan's - what to order

Greetings folks, I'll be in Austin over this weekend and will be dining at Sullivan's one night. I, like anyone, enjoy a great steak. What's the best steak on their menu? FYI, I have a penchant for ribeyes.

Thanks in advance.

Nothing. Take a cab a couple of blocks and eat at III Forks instead.

Both are comparable in price but III Forks is 10x the dining experience. Sullivans food and service have been on the decline for the past few years.

Took a client to III Forks last week and he said it was one of the best steaks he had ever had- service was fantastic as well.

Okay. Let's try a different tact here. If you were just along for the ride, and someone insisted on going to Sullivan's, and they were in fact going to pay for your meal, what would you order?

I usually get the filet minion. It's never been bad and a couple of times it's been the most tasty meat snack I can remember.

Damn, I showed up to this post to slam Sullivan's but now I almost feel bad doing it.

Nah, not gonna do it. Their wedge salad was pretty good.

Ordering the filet might be the way to go, but depending on who is taking you do you really want to order the most expensive cut on the menu?

Another option would be to pick a non-steak menu item so as not to be disappointed in the steak.

Seriously, I haven't eaten there in ten years, but the meal is memorable for how bad it was: thin-cut ribeye with no marbling, stringy chewy texture with no real flavor, and seemed like it was cooked in a 350 degree oven.

All the more disappointing because I had remembered it being very good from my college days.

Went for work a few months ago here in dallas...and bypassed the **** meat altogether. Got the Sea Bass (think it was sea bass) Korean Style. Really good.

I like the wedge and the fillet at Sullivan's. I used to go a ton in Chicago and Denver, but only visited Austin store once. My fillet was awesome. My wife's sucked. We sent it back. First time I ever sent back a steak, but they were happy to accommodate. Wine selection is OK -- mostly large commercial stuff. Make sure they serve the red wine at cellar temperature, or 60-65*. Ask to see the bottle before it is opened to determine if it is the correct temperature. We asked for a white wine chiller to get the bottle to a more drinkable temperature.

I hear they have a slammin happy hour with great burgers.

Back when I traded STAR Sullivan's was the place they set up in towns that the company didnt think could support a Del Friscoes and where they didn't think people would know the differnce.

Went there tonight on someone else's dime, and had a $30 steak that was reasonably priced. Probably not prime, but close. Certainly better than Outback and the like.
