Suit thread?

I remember reading a great thread on here a while back about suits. It had info on where, type and other info, but I couldn't find it via search. Anyone else remember it and can verify that it was on this board or know if I missed it? Also if anyone made a copy and could re-post it that would be awesome.

A permanent stockpile of the good threads would be really helpful and would probably decrease the number of repeat threads on this board.

I think it was on Quack's and I think it is long gone.

Summarizing thread:

1. Men's Wearhouse/Joseph Banks suck;
2. Brooks Brothers highly overrated for quality of suit;
3. A "good" suit costs $1,000.00.

If you are in Dallas, get your suits at Culwell & Son. They offer a great combination of quality and price.

Good recap Suttree. My input was that Samuelsohn is the only brand to buy, unless you 1) want to throw $500 away now and another $500 to replace a ****** looking suit in a year, or 2) you don't mind wearing a ****** looking suit a year from now, or 3) you have so much money that it makes no difference to you whether something costs $1000 or $5000.

They make an $800 suit that looks and lasts (and lasts looking awesome) like a $5000 suit. I have two of them (the only suits I own, I threw out all my Houston first year associate state bar discount Jos. Banks crap), and I swear to god, I always have the best looking suit in the room, even when I'm with my bosses boss who pays $4000 each at Richard James (seriously, he's a real prick). He's got much better shoes and shirts than me though.

R Rose has them in Houston, the Hound (******* crooks) sells them in SF. Their website says Hutson and Texas Clothier has them in Austin. There are a couple places in every city that sells them. They are the absolute and total ****.

What's wrong with Jos. Banks? I have two of them and I like them quite a bit.

I'm an engineer, not a lawyer, so excuse me if this makes me a cretin.

If you want a nice suit and want someone to fit it to you correctly, then go to Johnstone. It is in San Gabriel's Court, next to McBride's. They have the best stuff in town and the BEST service.

Your socks don't have to match your shoes. Your belt needs to match your shoes. That's what my mom told me.

****. I wish I would have seen this thread. I bought a Banks suit last weekend. I thought it looked nice, but then again, my office is business casual and only have to wear suits/coat and ties on occasion.

Now I'm going to be self conscious everytime I wear the ******.

Your Jos. Banks suit will look decent much longer if you use a very wide soft suit hanger, and have it dry cleaned as little as possible. Have the pants pressed between uses, and cleaned only when absolutely necessary, and never ever have the jacket cleaned if you can avoid it.

TIme and use will take it's toll, but it's the drycleanings that will kill it. Seriously, that jacket will look markedly worse after the first cleaning, and by the 4th or 5th it will be toast.

That is good advice for any suit. Dry cleaning is brutal on a suit. I probably get my suits cleaned less than twice a year. I have my pants pressed frequently.

If you're in Dallas, go to Alberto Cercone's tailor shop on Greenville Avenue. Depending on the fabric, you can get a custom made, hand tailored suit for around $1,000.

NAW, not the insurance defense lawyers, the ones that do all the legwork needed to use a takeover target's shareholders to whack its board of directors into submission.

Mr. Phlem - If you do not mind me asking, what type of boats does your employer have? If Katie's coming down I'm assuming cruise ships, she would probably not come within 10 miles of a tanker.
