suggestions on a trip

next wednesday we're supposed to go to akumal, mx for a wedding. more than likely, it's going to be canned b/c of the swine flu. if the bride moves the wedding back 1 week (to the 16th) in houston, my wife and i have time to take a trip from the 6th to the 10th. i need somewhere easy to get to (we'll be flying out of houston), with a beach, that's fairly cheap. ability to book thru amex and use points in a huge bonus.

2 places i'm looking at - puerto rico and dominican republic. anywhere else in caribbean would be great as well.

Look at Destin, Florida. It would be about a 9-10 hour drive from Houston. It's amazing. The Hilton Sandestin is wonderful. It's hard to fly to b/c you have to fly into Pensacola and then drive another hour.

Oh, and since you were planning the destination thing anyway, you can get married in Destin-- I know the Hilton offers reasonable packages. Or, if you were planning on having guests, look at New Orleans. The Maison Dupuy hotel offers a beautiful courtyard for weddings and is only a couple blocks from Bourbon. (great place to stay, too.)

LHF68 and I got married in NoLa a couple years back at the House of Broel. I'd highly recommend them, too if they could book you on short notice.

we are scheduled to go to playa next saturday. we are not canceling our trip. we actually see no reason to at this point. we will cancel if there is a mandatory cancellation of flights by the gov't or if all businesses are ordered closed there.

we're not getting married, another couple is. i think we're going to head to belize.

honestly, i don't care about the flu thing. i just don't think it's smart to fly into the storm if you don't have to.

another friend is getting married in cabo on may 11th. i'm supposed to go and stay the week with some guys. that might still be on.

good call on destin, didn't think about that. road trip might be fun as well.
