Subwoofer wiring thru the wall

Quick question if anyone has experience with this. I am routing my rear surround sound speakers and the sub thru the wall. I have made some custome wall plates to accept the speaker wiring and the sub RCA cable. What I wasnt expecting was the in-wall side of the sub RCA connector to not be an RCA connection. It appears to be a crimp on type connector or I could just solder (sp?) a wire to it. Anyone know what type of wire to use with this? Can I just strip the RCA cable I had planned to run thru the wall and solder it?

I have to say this thread is not at all what I expected. I've never cut into RCA cables, so I can't offer any advice there.

When I routed my cables, I used a modular plate like this combined with the RCA insert. That had RCA connections on both ends.

Since you're making your own plates, could you replace the oddball connector with a more conventional RCA plug?

Yea I ordered something similar to what is on that link. It would appear that I either ordered the wrong connector or the order was messed up.

After doing some browsing the RCA to solder wall plate is quite common. The question is now what wire to solder to it?

I hooked up the subwoofer box in my car in a way similar to what you want to do. When I built the box, I used RCA jacks on a plate so that I could plug the cables into the box on the outside and then plug another set in on the inside to run out to the amp that was mounted on the box. If you have the plate with your other stuff in it like you say, you will need to take out the RCA jack with the solder type back. Buy a wall plate made for the 3 RCA jacks and that will have RCA plugs on both the front and the back. The jacks are very easy to remove from the plate and you will be able to put them right into your wallplate that you are using. The only place I was able to find these wallplates with the three RCA jacks on them was at Radio Shack.
