Stupid question of the day: 'Push' E-mail

What is this? I've heard it mentioned when talking about PDA's and Blackberrys that have the capability to send and receive email.

How does it integrate with your Outlook? I leave my Outlook up all day which checks mail automatically every few minutes. If my Outlook is up while I'm out of the office and downloads email from my email server, will I not receive the emails on a mobile device?

Anything else I should know?

I believe "push" means the mail server pushes it out to your mobile device periodically. I don't have one, but I believe the Blackberry operates in real time (it goes out as it comes in).

zzzz nailed it. But it is as soon as your mobile device is identified(turn-on). The only way to not get mail immediately or as soon as it is sent is leave the device off.
