Stuff to do in San Francisco

DeadHorse

I've been to S.F. before but Mrs. Deadhorse are going out there in a month or so.

What are some things to do besides the obvious? We're going to see some architecture (she's an architect), Alcatraz, the Golden Gate Bridge, etc. We're also taking a tour out to Napa.

Any ideas besides those?

Well, if you are just slightly adventurous, rent a couple of bikes at FW and ride to and across GG bridge and down into Sausalito. Have a nice lunch on the water, and take the ferry back. If you are a bad ***, continue the trip to Corta Madera and around the backside of Tiburon, and take the ferry from there. Just great views from bikes.

Have you done Beach Blanket Babylon? The Mishtress loves that stuff, campy musical satire.

^this is good advice...the ferry back to SF is great.

explore Muir Woods, pref on a weekday. From there, make the drive to Stinson Beach

in SF, stay away from Fisherman's Warf, too touristy. Go for a drink at Top of the Mark and eat breakfast at Rose's Cafe on Union. Go relax at the beach/park east of the GG bridge - beautiful view of the bay, the bridge, and good people watching...

Given her architecture bent, I'm assuming a trip to Golden Gate Park and the De Young & Cal Academy of Sciences are on your plan. If not, they should be.

If you get over to Sonoma, in the southern end, find Benziger winery in Glen Ellen. They have a little tour that is really good. Take you through the vineyards on a trailer, then into the caves where the wine is stored, then into the bottling plant for two tastings then into the tasting room for more wine.

This vineyard follows biodynamic standards which is pretty cool if you are into that whole thing.

You should have at least a light jacket but this is pretty nice. I used to take all visitors to this and all loved it. Its like $25 per person and conveniently located in pier 39. When you do the tourist fisherman wharf you get to sail, pass by alcatraz, go under GG freez your *** a bit then get a hot overpriced chowder.

Just got back from a trip to SF and Napa a week ago. When we were in SF, we went down to FW for lunch one day but I agree it is very touristy. Walked the GG bridge and went to GG Park both were very cool. I would definitly recommend renting a bike or walking the GG bridge.
