studios sticking it to RedBox

Redbox, for those that don't know, happens to be the greatest thing in the world.

You can actually rent a movie without having to deal with some surly pierced weirdo at some crappy store.

For just a buck!

RedBox has a decent model, but it's Netflix for me. I'm not getting in my car for a movie. Netflix has it figured out and executes on it really well.

What sucks about Netflix? Not saying RedBox isn't good, but we get four movies delivered at a time for $26 a month. Two for me and the wife, two for the kids -- return 'em right away and get four more within about two days. We might go through 12-16 movies a month this way, all for $26 and no postage. Just a walk to the mailbox, and they have a huge selection.

I also like the iPhone app called 'Now Playing' which will look up movies in local theaters, but it also integrates with my Netflix queue so I can add, delete or re-prioritize items in my queue right on the spot.

They are just delaying letting Redbox have them. But if Redbox wanted to play hardball they would just tell them no thanks when they then want to release them. The studios think they are going to see a bump in sales by delaying, they won't. But they would see a decrease if Redbox refused to buy there movies. I walk by a redbox almost everyday.
