Just got the email.

The University of Texas was able to fill your request for tickets to the BCS National Championship Game. Your ticket will be available for pick up from will call beginning ....

I don't know if I should go or not. I wasn't able to get tix my freshman year for the 06 RB, and this doesn't happen very often to get tickets at face value. However... I just graduated [B.S. Aero Engineering]! But have no job... and I have like ~$1700 in credit card debt. This would def up my credit card expenses (I'll be driving there but have friends to stay with). Should I go?

I've bought season tickets every year, and what a way to go out if Texas won another MNC my freshman and last year. Also, my record for Texas games is undefeated. (Missed the 07Kstate/07 OU/08A&M).

Clearly you should not go. You should sell your tickets to me at face value. You should avoid going further into debt. I'm really doing you a favor by taking the tickets off your hands.

Just got the email as well.

Tickets are, what, $200? Even if you don't want to go, you can turn around and sell it for a cool $1000.

I'm personally going. I came in during 05 and went to the NC, and I'm going out this december with an NC.

ORANGE...

go go go GO GO GO go go go!!!

Honestly, in life you seize moments like this and soak them up like a HUMAN sponge....you will find a way to fund the trip...

GO!!!

Debt sucks and you don't have a job yet, but you're young. You're gonna get a job. You graduated from a great school and have a great degree. Save as much as you can and go to the game.

When you start raking in beaucoup bucks designing rockets for the Mars Orion Project, you won't even remember the measly cost of a couple of grand for the game. You'll just have blissful memories of a Texas victory and a crazy Hollywood night with a pair of Alabama ChiOs.

The 05 trip wound up being the defining road trip of my college career. I can't recommend enough that everybody take a hazy road trip with 2 buddies to california at least once during their College career.

So many stories and so much fun, that **** will last a life time for me.

can't believe nobody has said it..."take time to smell the roses." seriously, though, my honors program director always asked that on our exit interviews at UT. I said yes, but I didn't really know what that meant at the time. Listen to the many prevoius posters that said you should find a way to make this happen b/c you may never have another chance.

Wow, it wasn't hard to convince me haha. That and the fact I got a few more of my friends to come along.

IM GOING.

HOOK EM HORNS.

This will probably be the easiest and least expensive way you get tickets for a while. Take advantage.

Now make sure you go to the basketball games too!

If you get out here and one of your friends decides to go to the beach instead of to the game, I'll buy it. I live in LA and will buy everyone beers for the game!

No way man, you just graduated in aerospace (december i assume)? I graduated in aero in May and was a freshman in '05 as well. How about throwing me a ticket too as I have no job (but no credit card debt), we aerospacers gotta stick together!

Your diploma has "engineering" at the end of it, unlike the lesser mortals that graduated in business or liberal arts. Something tells me money isn't gonna be a problem for very long. The opportunity to go to a national championship game again, especially at face value, will probably come sometime after you're out of debt. Go now.

Unless, of course, you plan on sitting down, being quiet, and not wearing orange. In which case you should just give them to me. For free, for some reason. It'll make sense when you're older or something.

You knew the answer before you even asked. You asked on a UT Fan forums, so of course everyone is going to say "buy them".

Seriously, this is why our country is in trouble. People in debt spending more money they don't have. Tell you what: If you buy two tickets, I will pay for both, you give me one. That's the only fiscally responsible thing.

Your young... you will have plenty of time to pay off the debt. Missing this opportunity might be one of those regrets you keep with you the rest of your life.

Nice, really nice try. For the first sentence or so it seemed you really were tyring to give some heartfelt advice.

Pay off the debt, or don't. You can't take it with you, you know. That applies to wealth as well as debt.

I was trying to give advice, but he had already made his decision, and was just looking for justification. This hole cavalier attitude about "your only young once" and "you have plenty of time to pay off the debt" makes me sick. What if he ends up defaulting on his loans or declaring bankruptcy, then me and my fiscally responsible friends that paid for his trip to LA. And the job market isn't all that great right now, and I don't know for sure but I don't think the aerospace industry is all that strong. On the other hand, this guy can move in with his parents, take a job at Best Buy and pay off that debt in a few months, so no big deal.

Yeah, I'd be happy to help you with your fiscal issues as well. Just PM me.

Debt is not a good thing. That said, make this the last big thing you do before getting that job and getting rid of that debt. Do it!
