This Boston Hearld.com article starts out tongue in cheek but then reports the city council voted down a requirement to only use Food Stamp debit cards for FOOD POS,. instead these cards can be used to get cash.

The EBT card is for all those essential non-essentials, like visits to your local nail salon or tatoo parlor."

This is typical of policies around the country . does anyone think if we tightened up the use of food stamp debet cards etc that our money could help more who really need it and gert the cheaters off it?

If you're going to get a gvt handout you should ONLY be able to purchase food and a POS sale requirement makes sense.

On a completly different note on Sunday I heard the advertisment for "free cell phone service" from your lovely wasteful gvt. UNREAL!!

As it points out in the artcile people with school age children receive 2 meals plus a snack 5 or 6 days a week , most all year round. That frees up a lot of food stamp money and we see it being abused pretty routinely.

Think of the real good we could do with the hundreds of miilions of now not needed dollars being wasted.

yes people on welfare get free cells and 250 mins a month courtesy of us. Almost daily I see many people use the Lone Star debit card while talking on their smart phones. I wonder how they can afford them and now that I know we give them free cells i wonder if they trade those simple cells for smart phones and pay the difference with money they get from their food stamp card?
Why there is a need to advertise this I can't imagine.

The fun part of this is that if the government tried to impose limitations on what the money could be used for, we'd hear an outcry about how the right is trying to meddle in people's lives, telling them what they can and can't buy, legislating morality and basically trying to control people's lives.
