Strange IE Explorer Icon

so on the top of my IE window instead of the little "e" I've got what appears to be a chain link type icon... think two U's linked together sideways...

what the hell is this? this is the first time I've seen it..

Your IE has been branded. Check out The Link to reset to the default animations.

Print Screen key above the Insert and Delete keys. Hit that, and paste it in Paint or something.

OK... here are the screen shots... it's one screen shot, but I cropped it down to where the weird **** is....
notice that it has also changed my MS Word logo on the taskbar..

also... the only thing I've downloaded recently was a copy of WS_FTP... could they have done this?

download 'tweak ui' (from microsoft.com or downloads.com) and get it to "fix icons". tweak UI is made by msoft, btw.

yeah.. so I ran the "repair icons" deal with tweak ui... it fixed them, but the chain came back when I opened IE... arrrggghhhh

so i clicked on my icon to open MS Excel... and now that icon has turned into one for a tape drive or something... what the hell?!?!

no one has a clue here?

go into safe mode and run the "repair icons".

Have you run any spyware detectors yet? If not, download, update and run these: Ad Aware, Spybot: Search & Destroy, and HijackThis. If it's some sort of malware, those should fix it.

Do you have AdAware CE and SpyBot S&D 1.3? both vendors came out w/ new versions rercently and they both find lots more stuff than before.

OK.... so the weirdness on this computer continues.... here is a screen shot of the latest oddity..
look at my icons on the taskbar... just to the right of the Outlook icon is supposed to be the MS Word and MS Excel icons... instead there is that other ****..... but the buttons still function for opening the programs, and indeed tell you the proper name of the program when you hold your mouse over it... weird...

if not, download the appropriate version of tweak ui to your os.

TOY..

it is Windows ME... and the tweak ui only fixes it temporarily... as soon as you click on the Excel or Word or whatever icon it changes back to the weird ****...
