Strange dryer vent issue

Just moved into a house- I went to connect my 4" flexible dryer hose to the vent connection in the wall, and it would not fit over it! I pulled out my tape measure- the connection in the wall is 4-1/4". Anyone ever run into this before, and have a suggestion for connecting my dryer to it?

My experience is that the male end (from the wall) is usually slightly dimpled in or crushed a bit (more like slight bends) soas to get the hose over it.

That wasn't the case- it was way too large to even hope of doing that.

I ended up getting a new dryer hose with a plastic endcap from Home Depot- fit snugly inside the wall vent, and snugly over the connection out of the dryer. Never seen a setup like this before, but it's all together and working now.

They don't like to make construction items the same size for too long, so you have to buy all new stuff everytime you need one board for a fence, or one piece of siding, or one hose for a dryer. It's a conspiracy.
