Storage shed

OK, I am considering firing the lawn boy and buying a mower and edger again and so I am looking at storage shed/ portable building. nothing really big maybe 8x8.

What are my options out there now? Do they make some industrial plastic ones that big?

Home Depot carries both the RubberMaid & I think somethink akin to the SterLite brand; both in the size you might be inclined for. The doors open up & ½ of the roof slides back. They are typically a lower roof soas to keep it below a fence & thereby not pissing in the Cheerios of your friendly, Nazi-like H.O.A.

I got one recently that I like a lot. It is a Rubbermaid shed I got from Home Depot for $350 or so. It has a roof that slides back and front doors that open up. It is probably 5 feet wide, 4 or 5 feet high but 7 feet or so deep. Mower and other equipment fit in easily. That is probably the one NCAAFOOTBALL mentioned in his post.

Back in the day, prior to Home Depot and Lowe's I got a great storage building from Morgan Buildings...I used it for 27 years until I remodeled my backyard.

Morgan's may be good but they are really, really expensive. You have to have a way for them to drop it or drive it to your yard or else they have to build it onsite. That costs even more.

How secure are the Rubbermaid bldgs? I know that if somebody really wants in to one, no matter what it is, they will get in. They can cut the lock, something. But this sliding roof thing, can it open on its own from the outside? Are the walls flimsy to the point somebody can pry bar it open?

I have a regular old fashioned push mower with the round blade wheel. That and some other things like shovels, ho, and garden stuff could go in it. Nothing too expensive but nothing I want stolen either. I would not keep expensive tools in it for sure.

For those getting one or who have one, you can get one of those alarms that sound when the doors are opened for pretty cheap. Put the off sensor somewhere kind of hidden and you should be good to go.

If you have a 6' wood privacy fence you can build a simple shack that won't show from the streetview.

Since most such fences are built on 8' centers, just sink a couple more 4X4 posts 8' out from the old fence posts (plus one about 4' out for a door/gate opening), add your 2X4X8' rails, then tack up the 1X6X6' pickets to enclose it. Drop in 2X4s for rafters and cover it with white fiberglass panels.

Inside pour a readymix concrete floor using galvanized fencing for reinforcement, then tack up rollroofing on the inside walls. Build a gate/door and hang it with ordinary fence gate hardware.

When finished you've got a garden shack that should hold all your lawn equipment, potting crap, bicycles, etc.

It won't be visible from the street and will visually blend in with your backyard fence while you're out sipping a cold one on the patio.

A simple weekend project that's cheaper than any other option.

You can build it as crudely or skillfully as you like...and then piss on the neighborhood nazis.

Sco-pro.... are you saying to pour concrete after the walls are in place. Wouldn't that bond to the walls?

If I had a cat I would put up an electric fence with a very VERY strong collar on the cat. That way whenever it tried to come in the yard it would be thwarted.
