stone patio

In my new home, I have a very small covered patio (8x8).
Rather than add additional slab, I am considering a flagstone or shale addition (maybe 10x10).
Has anyone done this? And if so, can you give me some tips or point me to some easy to understand resource.
I've never done this before and could use the help

I've done it, it's easy. Did about and 8x8 with all natural stone (up near lake travis). The biggest thing is making the area as level as possible to start with. Leveling the stones once you lay them in is easy too, just lif them up and fill in the problem spots with dirt or sand or whathave you . You can use a rock hammer to break off pieces that stik out at weird angles, and then use those pieces to fill in gaps between larger stones. If you do it right, you won't even need concrete or mortar, just some sand to fill between the stones. You can use concrete/mortar for a more permanant look, but I don't like it.

Built one this past weekend (200 sq.ft.). The key is getting the base set correctly. If you make sure your base is correct, then laying the pavestone is nothrd at all.

Good luck.
