Saw Steve Earle last night at the Paramount. He was on fire. His young hot wife opened up for him and she was really good too. She has a voice that won't quit.
Saw him last night at the Lakewood Theater. Was going to start another thread, but I guess it would be pointless.
Music was great, crowd was kinda lame. Mostly old people who would get mad if you were talking, but then some old geezer would shout out," Thanks Alison/Steve! Don't leave!" or, "Welcome to Dallas! Glad you're here!" Not in a crazy, rock 'n roll way, but in a creepy old person way. Hard to explain I guess.
I was invited to this show and declined as the newest album and the ACL Fest show was the absolute worst ever by Steve. I've seen him a dozen times going back to Liberty Lunch days, and old Steve Earle is one of my all-time faves. I can even put up with his political rants in small doses, but that Dust Brothers, record scratching stuff was a final straw for me. Sounds like he put on a good show, and Allison is a beauty (saw them at Gypsy Tea Room before they were 'an item' and knew they had something going on).
I saw Earle in 95, fresh out of prison/rehab. I bet he weighted close to 250 lbs. When he came out on stage, someone said, "It's great to see you Steve". He said, "Believe me, it's good to be soon. It was a close one for a while".
My rotation tonight consisted (ists) of SE - Jerusalem, Spoon - Kill The Moonlight, and Ryan Adams - Easy Tiger. He can write some douchey rantish songs, but he can also be pure genius.
