Stealth fighter to retire

The F22 is a much more capable all-round aircraft than the Wobbly Goblin, but I wonder if the RCS is as good, and I don't think the F22 can haul as much A2G ordinance internally as the F117. The F117 was very good at its intended role ( deep-strike/high-threat-area bomber).

Maybe it doesn't even matter--with our overall combination of training, support, and intelligence, we could probably win most conflicts with relatively cheap F16s anway. That's my favorite bird.

I really wouldn't have guessed that it had been flying that long. It looks like it was flying for a decade before it's existence became general knowledge.

the other article says the F-22 costs 160 million to make. and the F-35 Lightning costs 77 million but won't even be in service for another few years. the Air Force wants 381 F-22's and 1,800 F35's. i don't even know what an F-35 is. it says that there are about 100 F-22's in servie right now.
it also said that they don't even use F-22 in the war over in iraq and afgan right now, they say it's too advanced for them to be using it there. they're saving it for future threats like China, Russia, and Iran...(scary)

The F-35 is a single engine fighter that was built from knowledge gained while developing the F-22. It's cheaper, but not as fast or stealthy. It's very adaptable, the Navy and Air Force will both use it. The Navy's version will be capable of vertical takeoff's and landings. Several of our close allies will also use the F-35.

Seriously, how much money will they really be saving? This is the premise for the move, but I would not be surprised if the savings did not even amount to one F22.

Every time I read a story about something like this I just have to remember that these particular planes are just the ones they're telling us about.

There are some super crazy shits flying around that'll be public knowledge in another 10 years....or at least that's what I imagine.
