That's a great idea considering there are 20,000 fans walking down San Jacinto and only about 30-40 cars with permits to go through there.
I know those 30-40 donate more than the 20,000 walkers. but still...
How about the mental midgets block off 19th for an hour so the 20,000+ pedestrians can move smoothly South rather than trying to pile them on the curb.
The University police department never ceases to amaze me with their ideas of what's best for us..
As I read it the high $donors who park there will still be tailgating on the street but us lowlys will now be prevented from any disruption, such as walking by and staring. I think the idea stinks, but that's just my peasant class opinion. Hope none of my friends on the sidewalk pushes me, or gets pushed themself, into any of the tailgaters space.
Let me explain this to you from the UT perspective. All you have to do is up your donation to the Longhorn Foundation to $20,000 per year, and you too can have an army of campus police shooing the great unwashed masses away from your stretch Hummvee so you can leave the game in time for your Forbes 500 reunion.
Used to tailgate on MLK and San Jac and I can tell you with 100% certainty there would be no way in hell I would move to the sidewalk just to allow a few self-important donors to plow their way through as if they own the street.
Not a problem. Wasn't enforced for me. I arrived about hour and half before game. Walked down street about hour before. Can't say how it was closer to game time but not an issue for me, business as usual. Same with game too unfortunately.
It wasn't enforced, there were many ushers/event staff asking everyone to walk on the sidewalk but everyone ignored them as there was no room as usual on the sidewalks!
