I need to start getting bids on concrete driveway and patio projects and wanted to know if this is a bad time to be doing these. i have been putting these off for years and can wait longer if the market for materials is still inflated. I remember hearing about concrete shortages and price increases and wanted to know if anyone has insight.

yup, China is using hella lota steel, inturn a shortage, driving up prices world wide. Therefore, even highrises are using concrete construction, whereas they'd be using steel in the past. Pare that new concrete use with unprecedented suburban growth here (subdivisions and roads) and a time of large freeway construction/renovation and again, unprecedented construction in China(accelerating in India too). So there's a shortage there too.

I'm not blaming China and India as its their right to grow. Just saying construction is unprecedented and resources will have a hard time keeping up.

Haven't heard of a concrete shortage... prices in Austin have been relatively flat for a year. As a private consumer, be prepared to pay $55+ / yard, and get leftover/unwanted concrete from commercial jobs.

helped a buddy pour a slab here in SoCal a few months back. 90 bucks a yard, and we had to order two weeks in advance.

Concrete is going anywhere from $52 to $65 a CY. Don't bother waiting for prices to come down, because they never will.

I'm in the industry that uses a lot of it. My buy 4000 PSI mix for for $52/yard + tax. Customers who buy small amounts naturally get shafted and pay a lot more, and get left overs (honestly).
